thinkpad T500: preupgrade from Fedora 16 64bit, very smooth.
thinkpad T41: preupgrade from Fedroa 15 32bit, smooth.
Mac Mini: preupgrade from Fedora 15 32bit. Smooth.
这个我比较惊奇，因为新的那个 Grub2 很可能和 EFI boot 不兼容。
本来想折腾下不行就算了，结果什么都不用改。
Intel evaluation MB & CPU: preupgrade from Fedora 16 64. No problem.
Dell Slim tower: preupgrade from Fedora 15 64. Smooth.
Macbook 4.1 这个是比较难的，反复装了好多遍还是不行。
我的 Macbook 有个特殊情况， CPU 是 64 bits, 但是
EFI boot 是 32 bits. 现在新的 Mac EFI 都是 64 bits.

装Fedora。有几个技术问题问一下大家。
1. 我想这台机子完全装Fedora，不搞双系统，但是还想保留ThinkVantage的自动
recovery，应该怎么办？是不是只要把那个C盘格了，分区就好了，隐藏分区不动就行？
2. 听说Thinkpad装Fedora，好像上网有问题，网卡和无线都能看到，但就是连不上。
不知道会不会出现这种情况。
3. 还有就是曾经用过Fedora 8, 不过现在看网上Fedora 12都出来了。不知大家推荐哪
个版本。或是ubuntu?

当然不是最新的版本。
Fedora 是给 RHEL 推送包的，是用户可用性测试。听起来不好听，
但是其实几乎所有开源的都是不断测试改进中。
Fedora 可以按时发布新版本是有很强的执行能力。 |

2. 明显的bug少，至少还没遇到过fedora 10里package kit那样的asshole
3. 变成ext4/LVM了

, can't read virtual memory error at the very beginning of the installation.
I Googled and found some complaints with similar models. Seems it is
either a bug in Fedora 11 installation, or something unique to Dell.
Because I use Fedora 11 at work, it's desirable to have the same system so
that I can work from home. Now the question, can I install 32 bit version?

初步使用了一下，别的先不说，就说这浏览器的速度
同样firefox 3.5在我的windows xp下，可以同时打开20－30个tab没问题，切换自如
但是linux下的firefox 3.5, 打开超过10个就有点反应慢了，打倒15个就彻底不动了，
死翘翘～～
换了chrome browser，结果是一样的，这是怎么回事呢？
不知道ubuntu用户有没有类似的问题；
另外，fedora的媒体应用，比如看电影，听歌也非常慢
open office也是奇慢无比
总之感觉fedora 10 比windows xp要慢
什么原因 呢？ |

fedora 如果要用最新软件的话可以用 rawhide。这个差不多是最新的了。
Arch 似乎讲究原汁原味，尽量不自己维护 patch。但是这样就容易造成比较复杂的
软件依赖和整合的用户体验不是那么好。例如 firefox 和 xulrunner 需要使用同样
的基本代码，否则有东西会不能用。这样的例子很多。我感觉在这种包之间有依赖
和特殊版本关系的处理，fedora 是非常好的，比 Ubuntu 好很多。 Ubuntu 经常
同样的包有很多个版本，但是不同的东西要用不同版本最后没有一个是能拼凑起来
用没问题的。
Fedora 这方面算做非常好了。当然也有不完美的时候。绝大多数用 fedup 和
preupgrade
自己就搞定了。需要注意的是要在支持的时间范围内升级。出了支持的时间，很多
mirror
就没有了，升级就难多了。
Arch 文档的确好，我也读过一些是因为其他 distribution 没有讨论那么仔细。 |

只是mate的default file manager 是 caja, 我想改用nautilus, 最终目的是恢复以前
的gvfs-metadata设置，比如icon positions.
请问大虾有无办法让mate使用nautilus 而不是caja?
我在网上查到如下设置，但没用，该了过后桌面空白不起作用，可能不适用于fedora/
mate.那个mimeapps.list根本没有内容

hei 字体是我的美国老板生成的, 机器上没有 gbsn
每次换机器就得修改， gbsn <-> hei
各位大侠有没有好的解决方案?

monitor, I bought a DisplayPort to VGA adapter. When use Windows 7, I can
use both monitors, however, Fedora 16 seems to have trouble use the one with
DisplayPort. I have tried to boot with and without the monitor plugged in
DisplayPort but no success.
lspci detects DisplayPort. Do I need a linux driver for DisplayPort?

一切按默认设置
正常启动fedora
无法启动vista
grub.conf 里面有vista entry
title windows vista

chainloader +1
但是选择之后，屏幕只有一个光标在左上角闪，无法继续
进入系统自带恢复盘X
命令提示符list disk
可以看到各个分区
不过C盘显示为hidden
不知道上面的文件是否被更改

Fedora 装在第二个硬盘的一个分区里，这个硬盘还有一个分区有用的东西
在选择安装空间的问题出现了问题，
如果选择“remove all linux partition on thie system",
看起来好像是整个硬盘都被格式化，不敢下手
如果选择“remove all partition on this system”,
结果跳出来的message是“no free space”
如果选择“keep all partition and use free space”
弹出来的message 是“no free space”
不敢贸然安装，请问是不是得单独准备一个硬盘？ |

I got a thinkstation D20 and installed Fedora 20 (tried several others, like
opensuse, fedora has the best support for hardware)
After that I installed oracle, and has been fooling around in oracle account.
Then I suddenly realized I no longer can log in as root using my password
anymore, the same happened to another admin user that uses the same password.
I do not think there is an issue with password expiration, but how could
this happen? Someone hacked in?

那个 Fedora release 版本是多少。
Fedora release 是 redhat 有内部需要，这种是 train release model。
要给各种feature 的实现定一个约定的目标实现日期。
而且有些feature有相互依赖和制约。放到一个新 release 比较好管理。
作为用户其实不需要每次release都重新装，做 online update 就好了。 |

quattro和4motion都是marketing term。一个是奥迪的，一个是大众的。
quattro和4motion都有基于torsen的实现，也都有基于haldex的实现。
比方说引擎纵置的audi/vw一般是torsen，新一点的是crown gear。
引擎横置的一般是haldex，就是打滑了后轮才参与。
