一般来说，UCB的（文理工）研究水平与我非常清楚的母校Stanford的研究水平差不多
。两校会有教授相互流失。UCB在（全美最大的）加州高中毕业生眼里绝对是全美最好
的学校之一，虽然prestige（这个比较虚）明显不如Stanford。如果学工程(包括计算
机），顶尖的高中毕业生考虑藤校的应该很少。做工程也是可以大发的。Key：（高工
资或）股票！最近20年，硅谷从Cisco等等到Facebook等等富了一批又一批的人。
关于前面其他人提过的一个话题：
教授的经济地位是可以很高的。有些斯坦福的（正副）教授开过公司，或者持过成功的
原始股，或者在公司里兼职，有不少大富翁。有政治或社会影响力的也有不少。有的专
业里的教授们很忙，有的专业里的教授们比较闲。有的教授会自己写书。假期比较多。
在学校里比较自由。在学校拿到tenure后可以无忧地做自己感兴趣的项目。也别小瞧名
校的PhD们。他们在硅谷这边普遍收入很高。不少大小投资公司喜欢招名校PhD毕业的。
教授人数应该比医生、商人和律师人数少多了。在比较好的学校成为教授是很不容易的

就说HPC的课设，教授是CS的，但学生大部分是物理系和机械系的，CS系的学生反而拿
不到course signature, 而设备又是DOE或者图里我给你的那些核武实验室投资甚至捐
赠的，lab又在CS机房上面，但课业内容却是要求有数理方向的基础，然后coding用的
却是C++的，并不是Fortran.
所以你看到的图里的center压根不是CS系的，但课程标签是CS的，教授也是CS的，这回
你听懂没？
