1. 你的service和teaching看起来一般，research你自己觉得最好，但是否就好到比别
的faculty（包括associate/full)高出10%的地步，可能不一定。
2. 你的service只局限于系里，没有college和university level 的service. 也没有
professional / community service.
3. graduate course 最好，不知你如何得知？
4. 考虑给你加薪，主任不会只把你和assistant比，还要和associate/full比，否则给
你一个人加，其他人怎么办？
5. 另外三年不加薪，是只针对你还是所有老师都不加？
6. 有很多因素，是你这个层次考虑不到的，但主任却不得不考虑。
我的看法是应该谈，但10%可能性很低，如果你能用hard data说服主任，可能最好的情
况是给你加2% - 3%。 但我很怀疑你有别的faculty的hard data (teaching
evaluation, service details, and research)来和你的比较。所以很可能是白谈。如
果其他faculty得知你在搜集他们的hard performance data, 你的tenure就一定不会过。 |

提到日程。征求了资深同事的意见，将来拿个outside offer比什么都管用。

are to the department. In other words, if they lost you for this 10% salary
raise, how much would they regret? Compared to this factor, whether or not
this raise is "reasonable" is a secondary issue. Plus, 10% is a little high.
Department gets salary raise budget from college/school every year and it
is limited. It might be difficult to your department head to give you 10% in
a year, compared to 6% for several years. |

offer然后要求match 或跳槽。 |

If they know you won't leave (worse school or lower salary), they don't care.

research is super strong for a better outside offer.
One real bad case: one untenured professor negotiated. The dean challenged
him if he can find a better contract elsewhere.
You know the result. He had to leave.
THINK TWICE if you are not ready to leave. |

有时候外面的offer未必管用，以前有个系头一怒之下“congratulations for your
new position”，还forward给所有faculty，那哥们儿本来只是虚晃一枪，结果被系头扎了个
透心凉
有时候系头也有心无力，想给大家涨工资，但是学校没有涨工资的budget/decision，跟谁说都没
有用
