Chicago bears. They still kick off at the 30 yard line in their first
preseason game.
OK, technically can you take a cheap 5 yard penalty to move the kickoff back
to 30 yard line? Although the other team can decline the penalty. |

30 yard line until the officials stopped them. They thought they had the
option of moving the kickoff back.

Not sure if a team can choose to kick off from the 30.
I bet the rule simply states that "... you cannot kick from beyond 35."
Usually a rule ony dictates what you canNOT do, or an upper limit.
Just like for a regular play, the rule only stipulates that " ... a team
cannot place more than 11 players on the field". So if I put 10 out there,
it isn't illegal, just stupid.

发帖数: 14021 | 6 I searched and got the answer. Bears kicked off from 30 yard line to avoid
touchback so that they could evaluate their kick return coverage. They
actually got an OK from NFL and Bills' coaches in advance.

“... We were just trying to evaluate our kickoff team. You don’t get any
evaluation when you kick touchbacks. That’s what preseason is for -- it’s
about evaluation and finding who can cover kicks. That’s all we were trying
to do.”
The new rule is vague in that it doesn’t specify the ball has to be kicked
off from the 35. A five-yard penalty, of course, would move a club back to
the 30. |

发帖数: 2643 | 7 其实就算是30yard还是有不少kicker可以踢到endzone里面甚至touchback，但是
touchback对方从20 yard开始攻。所以很多球队故意的把球踢到endzone边沿，怂恿对
方return，然后争取把return team压到20yard以内。
