当初VZ和FCC要频段时，FCC说你必须保证在这个频段上所有的LTE都无锁
VZ答应了
这是政府近些年来做得为数不多的好事之一

to lure unknowledgeable subscribers into their traps.
In the past, before Verizon have 4G LTE (GSM unlocked per FCC requirement)
phones, the only way to use a Verizon phone in a foreign country (for
example, China) was to use the roaming service for which Verizon charges a
very expensive rate.
But if you are fine with just using the roaming service and paying a huge
bill from Verizon, then you don't need any special "globally ready phone" to
do it, because VERY phone is "globally ready" in this sense. My Verizon (
dumb) phone back in 2004 could work perfectly in China on roaming service.
But of course, what we really want is to be able to plug SIM cards from
local carriers into our phones when we travel abroad. This was NOT possible
for Verizon phones UNTIL 4G LTE came to Verizon. Now virtually all Verizon
4G LTE phones are GSM unlocked out of the box, which means you can just go
to any place and buy a local SIM for using in your phone (the frequency
bands also need to match with what the phone model supports, but this is not
a issue for many carriers in many countries.)
For the phone itself, you do NOT need to do or ask Verizon to do anything
else to make it more "globally ready" than it already is. BUT, Verizon do
NOT advertise/tell this truth to everyone because this is causing them to
lose their profit from the roaming service bills.
What they do instead is to create this "new" thing called "globally ready
phones" and make it sound as if you cannot use your Verizon phone abroad if
you don't ask Verizon to enable the "global feature" for you. When you
request for it, they do nothing with the phone but simply try to enroll you
into their various "global roaming plans" -- none of these plans would be
necessary in most cases (unless you do have special needs) if the customer
had known about the phones ability to use other local SIM cards.
If you are knowledgeable enough to ask them about the phone's readiness for
using foreign SIM cards, they don't lie -- they will tell you the truth. But
if you don't know much about it, or just ask them how I can use the phone
when I travel abroad, they will just withhold the real truth from you and
try to sell their snake oil -- this is how they save as much as possible
profit from their global roaming charges in the midst of 4G LTE / SIM
unlocked phones.

发帖数: 694 | 12 FCC还要求VZW允许小运营商漫游到他家LTE上。VZW也不亏，一口气能把lower C Block
的频段全吞了。现在VZW是唯一一个continental 50 states都有至少20MHz的运营商。
比起AT&T现在还在东拼西凑找cable公司谈判买频段是爽多了。

roaming charges when i travel. they replied yes twice: once i chatted with
online rep and once with local corporate store rep.

发帖数: 3017 | 16 重新跟verizon 的零售商确认了旅行时，打电话的问题。
有两个选择：
1. 加global package/option, 其实就是漫游，比不加要便宜一些，但是可以保留原来
号码，data 的使用费用好像$25/100MB.
2. for "World Phone", 像是s4, note 3, iphone 5s/5c 之类的， 出行前可以要求
international sim unlock， 这样就可以插别的sim card,用当地的话费。
