左右吧。

当然要保持生活水平不变，租房要 X 1.5，买房至少 X 3.

假定一个family中西部收入150k，我丝毫不认为弯曲的300k年收入生活水平下降了。
另外，弯曲有好天气和机会多。退休了房子卖掉又是一大笔钱。别的地方房子是便宜，
可卖的时候也值不了几文钱呀。

Many people forget leverage, you pay down 20% and profit from 100%
of house equity growth, the first 250K tax free.
In stock market, how many of you are using margin, let alone 4 times of
margin? Not to mention the margin rate is typically 10% compare to
3% variable rate in mortgage.
So at the end of the day, in higher salary/higher housing area, you
contribute part of your higher salary to increase your home equity,
and you are doing leveraging to make that growth much bigger. It's not
necessarily a bad thing.
I would say in average Texas people live in a bigger house, while
California people enjoy weather and retire richer.

- California people retire richer only if they sell their house and move to
Texas. Leverage is good thing especially if you also get tax benefit from
the mortege. However, housing is risky and less liquid. Your house should
not be viewed as your 401K. You can't diverify it and you can't be sure
your house won't get destoryed by an earthquake.
You also forget you are paying much more on property tax, insurance,etc on a
millior dollar house.
