1. Canadian Visitor visa application for my mother for a short visit to
Canada. She was in US as B-1 during the application.
2. Her US visa status has been extended once (to extend the stay in US from
6 months to 1 year).
Timeline:
07/10: submitted online Visa application through MyCIC
07/11, 13, 19, 23: received "ghost update" (, one indicated fee has been
charged, some others showed no changes) by email.
07/25 noon: Received email from VAC requesting Passport mailing.
07/26 afternoon: Sent passport out to VAC @ NYC by USPS Express mail.
07/27 noon: Express mail received & signed by VAC.
07/28 noon: Receive a Visa Tracking number by email. Initial tracking status
"Application Received at the VAC"
07/28 afternoon: Status changed to "Passport in transit to Visa Office"
07/29 morning: Status "Passport Received by Visa Office - Under
Consideration"
08/01 afternoon: Status "Application Processing Completed - In Transit to
VAC"
08/02 morning: Received email from VAC, application status updated to "
Approved".
08/02 Visa Application Tracking Status "Application Processing Complete - In
Transit to the Applicant from the VAC"
08/04 noon: Received passport at home.
Lessons Learned:
1. I submitted the 1st application in late June, but forgot to attach the
I797 (Approval Notice for my mother's Visa Extension in US) with the
Canadaian visa application material. It ended up being rejected. So I had to
submit it again in early July.
2. Somehow when USPS express mail picked up my passport from VAC @ NYC on 08
/02, the USPS tracking system didn't get updated, so it appeared to me the
package still pending pick up till 08/04 (, when it actually got delivered
at my house). I had a Canadian tour booked for my mother with 08/06 as start
date, and I was about to pull the trigger to cancel it because I thought
she won't be able to make it. Glad I didn't. |
