Cristorey Mariano, 53, was accosted and shot as he returned to his home on
the 5700 block of East 15th Street shortly before 1:50 a.m., said Officer
Jeff Thomason, an Oakland police spokesman.
California Highway Patrol officers in the area heard the gunfire and were
the first on scene, Thomason said.
