Heard about this book today and wanted to check it out, and it just so
happened to be free for the Kindle edition.
This book was put together in about a month by volunteers to document the
Japan earthquake. It is composed of tweets, social media accounts, artwork,
photographs, and essays from people who were there.
As mentioned, the book was compiled, translated, and edited by volunteers
and Amazon has waived their usual fees, so 100% of the proceeds go to the

Here's the situation around me.
The NHK is saying that the chance of getting aftershocks bigger than M7.0 is
~70%.
Supermarkets and kombinis in central Sendai are emptied out today, but I
have secured food for ~2 weeks, with a 5kg bag of rice.
I'm just going out to help out people in Higashi Nibancho school in central
Sendai.
Still experiencing aftershocks.
No gas/heating yet. I have filled the bathtub with water and I pour some
boiling water when I try to take a bath tonight.

One, Hutton said. Any time an earthquake occurs in California, there's
statistically a 5% chance that it is a "foreshock" of a larger earthquake,
Hutton said.
But that 5% chance diminishes after the first day of the quake. The
likelihood of a subsequent larger temblor is further lessened if there are

最后，预测一下the Big One的epicenter, 想必是去年（10/30/07）的Magnitude 5.4
event near Alum Rock处无疑，因为this event (/30/07 Magnitude 5.4 event near
Alum Rock)，将弯曲最危险的Hayward fault （现在处于150年的窗口期）与另一条大
致沿I-680走向的Calaveras fault连在一起。不过，南湾鬼谷的同学大可放心，大部分
鬼谷的office buildings都不太高，且不少是1995年后建造的。再加上大部分鬼谷的
single family houses也是1995年后建造的，均符合1995年发布的新抗震规范的要求。
只是在最危险的是三藩及Oakland的Downtown的high-rise office buildings上班的各
位，小心驶得万年船，take care.

yesterday evening. It is about the 1976 earthquake, its aftermath, and
effects on one family. 240,000 people were killed in that quake. It is a
film that I would highly recommend. If made here, I believe it would have
earned Oscars. It really puts a human face on disasters such as this in
countries beyond our borders. |

整本书就是在讲贫富分化的问题，和建议的解决办法。贫富分化的差距像钟摆一样随着
时间来回变化，贫富分化大的时候整个社会的消费能力下降（富人的消费指出在总收入
中的比例远低于普通中产），对产品和服务的需求下降，工作机会减少，更多的人失业
，但是极少数的公司和企业高层工资和福利不断增加，进一步增大贫富差距。
减小贫富分化的解决途径：
增加富人税率（目前美国富人的税率甚至要远低于普通中产）；
提高最低工资。
