metabolic deisease的DISCOVERY(小分子), CAMBRIDGE主要做CANCER 的DISCOVERY(小
分子), 大分子的DISCOVERY主要在THOUSAND OAK.
我估计主要会裁小分子的R&D. 大分子是AMGEN的强项, 估计不会动. 我个人觉得三番和
SEATTLE最危险. AMGEN一直对CANCER比较重视, 所以CAMBRIDGE不会大动. 三番主要做
metabolic deisease的小分子DISCOVERY,比较悬. 由于PIPELINE 不好, SEATTLE的
development几乎没什么活. 那儿的人都闲的要死. 有一个人在2006参加了4
个MEETING加两个TRAINING.
前两年AMGEN疯狂扩张的时候, 大多数人就觉得迟早会出事, 整个一个几年前PFIZER的
翻版, 只是没想到会来得这么快. 放着好好的大分子不做, 偏要去试小分子.现在他们
唯一的希望就是明年AMG162的NDA了 |

昨天打电话过来说今天下午谈20分钟
于是下午一边改poster一边等
到了约定的时间，手机响了
一上来就推销他们的program如何如何不错
接着确认了我summer available的时间
和是否legal的问题
然后开始问很常规的behavior questions
比如说你申请amgen的动机，你的目标等等
我就顺便吹了一下amgen规模那么大，盈利还很高，问问他们的秘诀是什么
他就说是science driven的结果，我就把我的background说得很合适那个氛围的样子
然后话题就扯到我的resume上
他发现我的research不太match那个intern的要求
我就说我教过的TA正好包括她们intern的范围
他就说会把我的简历给HM看，并说HM会做决定
当时说得兴起，没记下HM的名字，汗。。。只记得是一个female的名字。
然后他问我有几个internship interview，我就如实说shell，abbott
他就问我prefer哪个？我告诉他SF气候好。。。

这里上班的中国人都住哪里啊，还是已经买房了？本人有个4岁的孩子，想8月份住一个
华人比较多的地方或社区，方便孩子玩和找朋友。想先找6月中旬到8月初的短期房子，

Genentech, which is more campus-like. Benefits are similar, for Research
Associate, 70K and up, for scientist(fresh Ph.D), close to 100K. Genentech
stock has risen 7-fold since 2002, there is not much room now, so option
means little.
Not very familiar with Amgen, but Genentech has very few Chemistry openings.
Basically, it has two major department, Oncology and Immunology.

you mind to comment a bit for Genentech and Amgen's development groups? I am
especially interested in pharmaceutical/formulation/drug delivery field.
For you and others' information: usually you don't have to work for the same
company until retirement to get the pension. Most companies here have a
minimal service time (such as 5 years), if you chose to leave after 5 years,

1. Amgen，不是在thousand oaks的总部，是在South SF. 做的东西跟我的research比
较不相关。
2. Centocor，这个是Johnson & Johnson的子公司，但是我也不懂这个“子公司”是什
么意思，我觉得可能跟强生一点关系都没有。不过因为是之前合作过一篇paper的人直
接找的我，是继续做我那篇paper的东西。所以跟research比较相关。
我自己的背景：我现在第三年，实习也是想找个大公司听着好听点的，因为我以后也不
打算进学校。但是Amgen的那个不在总公司，估计体验不了公司文化啊活动啊什么的。
Centocor跟学术比较相关，可能能比较早毕业。

一般10多年下岗有9个月的package。你如果面对家人，要告诉他们你完蛋了，那种压力
是很大的。
我认真的跟你讲。很多人可能小孩在上大学。你要开车去，告诉他从今天起，你要自食
其力了。你一下从小孩眼里的hero，变成了垃圾。
你要告诉你太太，从今天起，我们家里要调整消费了，很多女的当场crash。你以为这
世界上有多少是真爱。都是为钱搬一起的。
你要告诉你80多的家里人，我完蛋了，从此没钱回国看你们了。我擦，那是什么感觉。
你周围的邻居看见你的车每天不出发了，都知道你下岗了。一下你就是个垃圾。看你们
家准备卖房了。
那种压力，吓死人我擦。
从2008年到今天，整个美国制药行业下岗了20多万人。时至今日，仍然没有刹车的痕迹。
