需要在2019新session开始时离开。注意写的是the end of next calendar year，那是
2018年底。

1.TA/RA是hourly pay，不存在带薪假期几周的说法。带薪假是年薪雇员才有的。
2.照章办事，TA是学校里有严格contract起至时间，期间不应该安排休假
(vacation），holiday几天是按照academic calendar来休。RA如果是NSF grant的话，
学校里有给老师的effort reporting的training和系统，规定是用NSF发工资的那个月
就应该100%的时间在做project，出去开会都不行，除非是只和这个funding有关的放在
project plan里的.学生也一样，如果用NSF给学生发工资，学生visa又证明学生又
travel,这是abuse NSF funding.违规行为。
3.比较motivated的学生知道TA/RA是一种financial support，在program里就是负责的
考虑project或者论文的进度，和导师商量安排合适的休假。研究生应该知道grad

USCIS - United States Citizen and Immigration Services，也即我们常说的移民局
ASC - Application Service Center，移民局申请服务中心
打指纹 - 获取绿卡前在ASC录取指纹以及照相，供FBI进行犯罪记录调查
7月27日是个重要的日子，我们一家三口（我、老婆和妞妞）去西雅图的USCIS ASC录取
指纹和照相，而这些是获取绿卡的最后一步。要说这个appointment真是姗姗来迟，我
们5月10日寄出的485申请，移民局5月14日发出了receipt notice，AP和EAD的combo卡
在6月中旬也拿到了，只有这个fingerprint appointment，在6月底才收到通知，而且
安排在了7月27日近月底。想想网上很多人两个月时间485都批准、绿卡都拿到了，而我
们2个半月才悲催地去打指纹，真是悲从心中来啊！

方舟子打假的影响较大、面较广。
我即不可能全部知道，也参与较少。
十几年前基因皇后事件，是早期我参与签名支持方舟子的一件。那明显是造
假，真敢把一个技术员叫成皇后，为在中国吸引资金开公司 ，挺过分的。
肖传国事件，虽然我对其中一些觉得有问题，也支持方舟子，不过，对于肖的
手术是否有效、是否是其主张的部分起效，我认为只能医生们做研究确定，外界、包括
记者调查，都不是下定论的途径。
所以，一般来说，我的意见不如方舟子的尖锐。
这次可能例外。方舟子质疑李开复是否1988到1990年做过助理教授、英文的助
理教授翻译成中文副教授是否合适、是否梅隆大学最年轻的助理教授。
我推测，有很大的可能性，李开复没有做过助理教授。

在具体谈到这个主题之前，或许有必要讨论一下仇恨这个问题。我是能理解人类的仇恨
。这世界有三种力量可以支持一个人承受所不能忍受的折磨。一种是爱的力量，一种是
恨的力量，一种是信仰的力量。
即使象我这种看破红尘之人，在他们24小时折磨之下，我心中也会不时泛起恨意。所以
，我是能理解人类的那份绝望，特别是看到你的亲人被无辜地夺取生命，你的家园被毁
，你的同族被屠杀的时候。
所以，如果一个印第安人，因为自己的种族被白人完全地屠杀而走向复仇之路，我完全
可以理解。那么日本人因为被原子弹摧毁，战败而走向复仇之路，这种感情，我也是可
以理解。可以理解，不等于说我会和这种仇恨的力量和解而纵容它，让它危害人类。
多数人的感情，不管爱也好，恨也好，都是和自己命运相连，而不能把自己的遭遇放在
历史的环境下，做客观的判断，理性的判断。其实我觉得中国发言人，这句话说的比较
好。固然广岛值得纪念，但南京更不应忘怀。在我们回顾历史的时候，我们不能有选择
性记忆。日本民族的问题就是把自己民族的利益过分的强调，而忽视其他民族正当的权

现在不断羞辱sessions的背后目的估计就是想放手一搏fire mueller,其实版上讨论
sessions怎么怎么，我认为都不对，trump现在在乎的才不是啥law and order,他现在
羞辱sessions的动机是fire mueller,只有先让sessions辞职或者fire sessions，才能
为下一步创造条件。
问题是羞辱sessions好像达不到让sessions辞职的目的，指责sessions已经受到far
right push back，所以fire sessions也是有顾虑的，今天far right媒体攻击trump之
后，trump语气也软了一些。现在大家也嗅觉到trump企图fire mueller的动机，媒体也
大量报道民主党设法阻止trump recess appointment,如果不能recess appointment,他
fire掉sessions没法达到啥目的。fire掉一个估计都难抗住，没法继续fire了，再则你
