- Mutations in the aquaporin-2 gene cause hereditary nephrogenic diabetes
insipidus in humans.
- Mice homozygous for inactivating mutations in the aquaporin-0 gene develop
congenital cataracts. I don't know whether similar situation exists in human.
- Some people have been identified with severe or total deficiency in
aquaporin-1. Interestingly, they appear clinically unaffected, but have not
been examined under conditions of water deprivation. Mice with t |

little bit about water channel - aquaporin.
Let's look at this man.

Dr. peter Agre, the winner of this year's nobel price. What is his major
contribution? This man discovered the water channels, a class of protein named
as aquaporin, in 1980's.
The following table is the distribution and function of aquaporins in
human body.

发帖数: 303 | 3 The structure of aquaporin -1 has been solved. it is a tetramer. But more like
chloride channel, each of its four subunit has an independant pore. So the
tetramer actually is composed by four channels. (see figure below)
The selection problem is solved by arranging three hydrophlic patches along
the
hydrophobic channel wall. This hydrophilic patches contribute four water
binding sites and form the selective filter. Look at the following figure.

并不足够突出：不是第一个通道（是第几十个通道）、也无特殊性。”只是他的个人看
事物的角度，根本不客观。
个人觉得诺贝尔奖委员会的出发点是从概念上的革新，因为在aquaporin发现之前，
dogma都是认为“For many years, scientists assumed that water leaked through the cell membrane”，“In most cells, water moves in and out by osmosis through the
lipid component of cell membranes.” 而aquaporin的发现是首次对此概念的彻底革
新，之前尽管有hypothesis但都没有找到直接的证据。所以诺贝尔奖委员会发奖给
aquaporin根本就不是因为其结构。
所以饶毅只知道批评诺奖委员会，自已也只是半桶水，有其自己局限性。
是生物化学和生物物理学的工作，有时也给分子生物学。

In my opinion, it is a mistake to award McKinnon's work instead of other

1.对肖传国的工作的小看。他虽然广义上是研究neuroscience，但不代表他就知道肖的
探索(nerve rerouting)的重要意义。虽然肖有夸大他的手术的疗效（对有些spinal
bifilda孩子的排尿控制还是有效的。），手术在概念上开创性的。需要时间来完善这个
手术。至少一个美国JHU 的pediatric neurosurgeon知道他的手术；并认为是创新；如
果成功，will be amazing.
饶毅虽然是学医的，毕业于江西医学院，但是并没有行医。也不一定对因为脊髓损伤（
各种原因）导致排尿障碍有研究和深入了解，但是他如同方舟子一样说肖的手术一文不
值；肖是弱智，是充内行了。
2.过分贬低水通道aquaporin获得诺奖。
