a public hazard, see the latest EPA report:

The chemials were dumped to the Sudbury river until 1978, which flows
through many towns, including Sudbury, Wayland, Lincoln, and Concord. The
EPA report shows that many areas in these towns along the Sudbury river have

这个Superfund Cleanup list应该指的是大Sudbury river流域，因为当年的化学品都
倒到河里，Sudbury river下游几十里好几个town都受到了污染，Ashland只是源头而已
，见上面EPA report page 12.
由于重金属比如水银会沉积在淤泥里，聚集在水生物中，这种完全治理好像分好几个阶
段，据EPA说现在是第四阶段，也是最后的阶段了。 |

睡了个懒觉起身，今天就是660miles一路从portland开回San Jose。下午的时候经过
Ashland稍稍停了一会儿，Ashland is famous for Oregon Shakespear Festival， 每
年从两月一直到十月，有各地的剧团来Astoria演出莎士比亚戏剧，Ashland共有三个剧
院，其中有一个露天剧场。可惜我们这次没有时间去看Shakespear的戏了，我只好在
welcome center里和那里的志愿服务的老太太聊了会儿天，老太太告诉我说，春天和秋
天去参加Shakespear festival最好，因为不是旺季，票价比较便宜。下一次吧，旅行
总要稍微带一点遗憾，可以让将来有东西憧憬憧憬。
Ashland属于内陆气候吧，反正下午的时候十分炎热，估计差不多快有90度了，我们在
星巴克买冰咖，看到一个巨漂亮mm，拿着个剧本坐在咖啡店里默读，估计是哪个剧团的
演员吧，可惜我脸皮太薄，没敢对着mm拍，遗憾！

我个人建议可以住我家附近哈，你上班可以乘orange line很方便，downtown上班不可
能开车的。在ashland和31街那里，还蛮安全。
原则上35街以北，state以西，ashland以东，downtown以南，就还凑合，这一块住的中
国人也很多，离chinatown也很近，买菜吃饭都很方便。
小学我不知道，daycare的话我找了一圈，ashland上面那家little green tree house
蛮好的，小贵，据说他们马上会在33街那边再开家分部，这样就很近了，本部离
bridgeport有点远。
儿科那肯定是children's memorial hospital啊，好像是在downtown的。
妇科Rush吧，UIC边上
基本都是开车15分钟内的事情 |

town，medium household income和Newton， Lexington等差不多，但房价总体比他们
低，所以同样的钱可以买到更新更好的房子。华人比Newton，Lexington要少些。
Westborough离城远了点。Southboro的commuter rail station就在Southboro和
Hopkinton交界的地方，离附近的Ashland站也很近。有朋友住在Ashland，从Ashland站
到South Station上班，有那种快车的，大概45分钟左右。
开车主要走9号路和90，495，周末很方便，基本不堵。上下班进城一般会堵，反方向不
堵。 |

七月四日，是美国国庆日。在美国居住二十多年，每年看美国的国庆日庆祝活动，都相
当感慨，它至少有两个特色：
首先，美国各地的庆祝活动，不是官方为了宣传国家强大、执政党伟大光荣正确而组织
的，而主要是由民间团体或私人公司举办的。像纽约每年的国庆焰火，都是由梅西（
Macys）百货公司举办的。焰火相当绚丽多彩，据说要几百万美元。而首都华盛顿的焰
火，以及各地的庆祝游行活动等等，几乎都是私人团体举办的。而不像共产国家那样，
从来都是倾国家之力，做政府一手操纵的宣传。
美国国庆纪念活动的第二个特色是，它虽然是纪念国家的建立，但主要是赞美这个国家
保障了每个人的自由，给个人提供了发展的机会，也就是这个国家刚刚建立时发表的《
独立宣言》所确立的那些原则。美国人不说国庆日，而是把七月四日称为“独立日”，

We got a famous "Caner Lake" here at Ashland, MA. Officially, "the
Massachusetts State Department of Public Health released a study that found
that people who grew up in Ashland between the late 1960s and early 1980s
and swam in the waters near Nyanza had a 200-300% higher incidence of cancer

，你地图上可以看一下，或者我们家旁边，就是31街和ashland交界，这边不算太贵，
我前两年找的时候是800两室的，不过是很一般的两室。但是我已经三年没挪窝了，所
以不知道现在的行情。我家就是3室的，房租990.
你就在craiglist上面搜bridgeport，搜一下地图，按照我前面给你画的那个范围，原
则上是越往西，当然不能过ashland，越往北，就越好，南面东面（即使在我画的范围
里，靠近state或者35th St的）能不去就不去。
我最近出门给你留心一下哪里有for rent吧
其实daycare，你如果要求不高的话，33街那边有个600的……那个是我去看了不能忍的
。开个玩笑，我觉得你也肯定忍不了。 |

发帖数: 4283 | 50 MB在不同的地方消费感受略有不同，我经常去的是Billerica的那两家和Burlington的
那家。Nashua的那家偶尔去，Bellingham的那家以前去过，Ashland的那家偶尔去。不
同的MB感觉是不一样的，Burlington那家感觉最好，Nashua的其次，North Billerica
的那家也不错。相比之下，Bellingham的很乱，Ashland的感觉也不好。
但总之，MB的确是针对中下阶级的，感觉老中可能还会讲究一点，一般老美上了中产就
不会去了。然后不管种族，上了upper middle class的都不会去的。
说MB是grocer行业的Walmart，也不合适，毕竟Walmart的东西次，但MB的东西并没有差
，就是购物环境这些噱头没有了。 |
