June 4 (Bloomberg) -- Silver Lake Partners and TPG Inc. agreed to buy Avaya
Inc. for about $8 billion, the New York Times reported, in the largest lever
aged buyout of a computer networking company.
Avaya shareholders will receive about $17 a share, the Times said, citing un
identified people familiar with the transaction. That's 5.7 percent more tha
n Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based Avaya's closing price of $16.08 on June 1.

currently have nortel voip. Avaya and Cisco are the two competitor for new
UC migration. But it looks like Cisco did not even gave a sh*t on the
competition, their quota is late without early notice, the price is
much higher than Avaya, and it looks like they don't care about our business.

98年的金融风暴,当时基本是一无所知.98年末大家都开始说YHOO,AMZN,于是也跟着凑热
闹.买进,一PULL BACK,就吓得出手了.那时候没几个人买网络股还亏的,我就是其中之一.
学到的教训是:不要盲目跟进,这样一来容易买高卖低.
后来开始学习投资101,试过止损,可是很少找对价位. 也试过不止损,就成了股东.
开始关注公布的经济数字,可发现市场反应不一,有时UP,有时DOWN说"已经PRICE-IN
SELL-ON-NEWS".学到的教训是:不要相信NEWS里的对涨跌的解释.
01年希望渐渐破灭,到02年的绝望,到03年9月还不相信BEAR MKT已经结束,哈哈,标准的
反指.
损失最大的,还是这两次:
02年初TYCO一天就从60跌到30.出了SCANDAL.CEO当时出来否认,我就相信了,还加了仓!
现在CEO还在坐牢吧.
05年AVAYA(LUCENT的SPIN OFF),ER之前没有任何WARNING(至少我没看到)CEO还说形式一
片大好,ER后跌25%.
从这两次走麦城之后,不再买个股.学到的教训是: |

lucent的extensibility就更搞笑了，人家cisco啦，avaya啦，都是插卡搞module式的
，就他狗屁玩一体，结果不是出来了么。
你看看huawei的产品，什么protocol上不了啊，把人家cisco的proprietary 的eigrp一
样用的好好地，到了美国立马歇菜，被人家告了还可以打官司，这也就是GCD领导下可
以打打擦边球吧。
芝加哥地区现在就没有F1可以去的地方，bell lab，lucent，moto，曾经是何等风光啊
。现在你要是小卡片在手，verizon啦，RCN这类的去去，也算是最佳选择了，这个和国
内一样ISP和vendor，总是不同的道路。 |

打算立足本地，不过他现在西雅图。avaya前几年裁员闹腾的。

The valuable part of Skype is the customer base. But I think if MSFT
use the $8B as bing cash back, the market share will improve
significantly than buy the customer of Skype.
Do not think SB is interesting with the communication feature of Skype.
MS has similar product, office live? or lyxx sth? It is just like Cisco
call manager or Avaya Enterprise. |

忧虑，这个数字太震撼了，阿三已经在这个行业悄无声息的领先我们太多。
你看看现在去哪个公司面试IT的考官里没有阿三，从Cisco, Avaya 到 Fedex。他们就
是为难你中国人，向着自己人，一窝一窝老鼠一样。不说软件测试了，就BI这个领域吧
，可以说所有的ETL经理都是印度人，很多BI的项目也被TATA consulting拿去。其实BI
这部分工作挺容易做的，两年经验就可以了，CS和MIS轻松搞定，不过现在高薪也越来
越难赚了，因为有很多阿三很便宜都愿意干。
中国的consulting公司也有，比如Inspur和Chinasoft,但他们的规模远不如ICC.呼唤有
中国的ICC出现！ |

to Telco. VzB asks less than 2c per min on long distance calls,for example,
cheap enough even compared w/ VoIP providers...
Within the enterprice of course more and more people dump Nortel PBX
and jump to Cisco CUCM. (or Avaya....)

different, but still very similar on big pictures like SIP/MGCP/H.323,
gateways, call agent, SBC, Session Manager, virtualization etc.
How do you guys think of SIP trunking to verizon etc, even skype? |

发帖数: 5329 | 44 Cisco UC还远远算不上成功产品，等把avaya等灭了也许还可以算，现在满街都找RS的人，UC的需求量就少多了，事情总得有个发展阶段。
7750是个好产品，一个产品抵挡Cisco一个产品线，不过ALU如果不出后续的强档产品，二层VPN这块很难说谁最后笑。觉得Cisco这块很傻，推了那么久3层VPN，眼见2层VPN在运营商有市场，却迟迟不大力推2层VPN，怕抢了3层VPN的优势，导致ALU得了先机，原来Metro这块全是65/76的天下，现在这些逐步都被7750踢下去。 |
