其实我没有痛恨北京的现代建筑，不过是喜欢琢磨──instead of "why beauty
matters?", 我更喜欢琢磨 "why beauty does not matter, or sometimes seems so?"
那个video看了4集半。我觉得里边好多次提到human nature, divine, transcendental
这些词，而提及的方式都似乎假定它们是存在并且稳定的。对我来说，顺着那个‘琢磨
’，我会怀疑这些假定。毕竟，如果history is memory made scientific，那么
esthetics is sensation made historic。
btw，那个哲学家举例时，几乎不用中世纪的作品（不知道他对Panofsky研究过的透视
、人体比例什么的怎么看），是不是有点觉得中世纪很黑暗，二十世纪后有点中世纪复
兴啊？ |

这部片子确实是大牌云集，虽然Crowe和Pearce那时好像还不算太出名。Spacey在这里
就算不是主角，也是戏很重的配角了，而且演得一如既往的好。我一直比较喜欢他的电
影。印象深刻的如American Beauty，其中和邻居儿子Ricky说起自己上学时要靠在
Burger店打工挣零花钱，Ricky说That Sucks，他却说，No, actually it was great.

是我之前听cbc asian heritage month的节目里推荐的移民文学中的一本。以“我”(
Malcolm)参加父亲葬礼后认识自己的同父异母的妹妹Hadley的一年里，与家人爱人之间
的dynamics，对个人职业的迷茫，以及与Hadley认识了解的过程中自我发现和成长。
我觉得虽然这本书不是什么很深刻的划时代的巨作，但好在很有诚意，表现了移民第二
代的post-college coming-of-age, 亲情，爱情，事业和理想之间的很现实的画面。贵
在不悲情或强调移民的背景，让人觉得其实每一个刚刚从大学毕业的年轻人都会要经历
同样的self-doubt，困惑和迷茫。不过最后看到Hadley死于accident，我的心都沉了下
去，难过了好久。难道真的只有将美好事物毁灭在读者面前才算得上深刻吗...

中文里说一个人有美丽的心灵肯定不是说这个人有多么聪明的大脑。
但‘mind'在英文里指的是人的智力（intellect), 是一个人认知世界，推理的能力，
都是和大脑相关的， 这和电影的主题人物-Nash-的故事是一致的。
如果说Nash的妻子有一颗美丽的心灵，那是没有疑问的，但显然这不是电影的主题。
如果译成美丽的大脑，中文就显得很笨拙。
‘beautiful'除了美，是不是还有一种对’Nash'的聪明表示惊叹的意思，有一种妙不
可言的意味。如果译成‘美妙的心智’呢？ |

以前上课时，邻座一个很帅气的菲律宾男孩的手机铃声就是这一首歌。旋律很简单，起
伏流畅，听得让人觉得一身都舒服。
词曲作者是Jose Marie Chan，一个菲律宾的华裔老歌手，他长相普通，其貌不扬，但
是每次看到他那小小的个子往台上一站时，心就笑开了花，这真是个有趣的人，有着一
