我必须告诉长江和长江边的人们我父亲的故事
我小的时候不知道鱼会生病，鸟会中毒，小孩子会死。但是我的父亲知道。他是一个
生物学家。后来我父亲死了。我父亲的学生告诉我，长江的鱼不能吃了；在江边白茅上飞
著的鸟儿，飞著飞著就摔下来死了，是铅中毒；在长江边出生的孩子，小小的年纪就得了
肝癌。
在人们还没有反映过来为什么的时候，那条从天际流进诗里和画里的长江，突然丧失
了衬托落霞孤骛的闲情逸志；突然关闭了博揽千帆万木的宽阔胸怀。长江，突然变成了我
们的“敌人”。
在我最近一次回到江南的时候，我看见长江浑黄的水闷声不响地流著，象一个固执的
老人，拖著一根扭曲的桃木拐棍，怨恨地从他的不肖子孙门前走过，再也不回头了。
