Malawi Gay Couple Convicted

Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga, the Malawi gay couple jailed since
December for holding a public engagement ceremony, were convicted Tuesday of
“unnatural acts and gross indecency” and face up to 14 years in prison.
According to the Associated Press, “Blantyre Chief Resident Magistrate
Nyakwawa Usiwa said the sentencing will take place on Thursday. The couple
could be imprisoned for up to 14 years.”

HIV Rising Among Gay, Bi Men in Asia

Illinois Vote on Civil Unions Today?

The Illinois House of Representatives could vote on a civil unions measure
for same-sex couples as early as Tuesday during the lame-duck session. The
bill has a strong chance of passage in the senate and Governor Pat Quinn has
pledged to sign it.

Colorado state senator Pat Steadman plans to introduce a bill next year to
legalize civil unions in the state.

Gay Victory in U.N. Resolution Vote

Following weeks of intense lobbying by gay activists, member states of the
United Nations voted Tuesday evening to restore "sexual orientation" to a
resolution that condemns extrajudicial killings.
