藏着4000亿桶的石油，包括中谷农地下的154亿桶。如果这些石油获准开采，加州可能
出现一个新的石油开采蓬勃期，并且为加州经济带来巨大收益。
4000亿桶的蕴藏量，等于沙乌地阿拉伯全部蕴藏量的一半。加州沿海的蕴藏量尤其丰富
，由于这些石油都藏在地下页岩层之下，所以中加州沿海的蕴藏带又称为蒙特瑞页岩带
