constructed:
1) elevated tracks dedicated to HSR;
2) convert Caltran tacks to dual use.
MP, PA and ATHERTON tried to sue HSR and force them to use below grade (and
it is not tunnel, just deep ditch so it is still open air) but that proposal
failed. |

But it could be very slow if you are behind a heavy-load truck along the
single lane with no chance to pass. Caltran does a SUPER job clearing both
roads.
After all, which resort you prefer matters more. |

公司就足够了。我不否认中国人选择读硕士，其实潜力不比博士差。但是，你少了4-5
年的正规研究经历和若干博士课程，你没经过名师指点，在专业能力上，如何比我等傻
博强啊？工作10年之后，你早3，5年的工作经历，如何有更大优势啊？
如果有一天，我想换工作，各种工作真如探囊取物。我可能会去政府部门，如加州交通
局(caltrans)，美国地质勘探局(USGS)，待遇好，工资高的铁饭碗；也可以去URS,
Fulgo, Geosynthetic, Earth Mechanics等众多的咨询公司，绝不可能会在一颗树上吊
死。选择仍然多多，工作不再是混口饭吃而已，还要发展自己的专业和兴趣。目前老夫
已答应香港的一家大学，去做教职去也。工业界学术界自由切换，真痛快也。
我另一个环境工程博士同学刚刚签了exponent, 看看人家的阵容，你就知为何了：

般。读不读phd应该取决于个人的自身定位。

发帖数: 55 | 45 说真的，看钱就不要做教授了。教授的付出绝不止是8个小时。付出收益绝对不成正比。
我个人的体会是学交通就去政府吧。轻松，实惠。 Caltrans的PE一年也拿到100K，就
算在湾区，也还不错.还可以做一个side job,如果你愿意的话。但别的DOT收入的确很
低，但也可以做Side job.且政府工作轻松，稳定，绝不是外面学术界工业界多拿些钱
能抵的。
看钱别老拿大牛比，那绝对不是所有人都能做到的。且凭他们的才智去任何地方都会收
入很高。大家就和普通教授比吧。
真正想赚钱就要自己有积累后单干。关键看你想要什么，想做什么。短期只要你没有特
别反感Transportation engineering(TE)或IE,那个给钱去那个。生存第一。说真的，
IE不比Transportation engineering好到哪里去.IE是万金油，但是学的辛苦，出成果
难，难毕业。薪水和TE差不了太多。从就业来看，TE似乎更好一些。毕竟IE最初起家的
制造业大部分移至中国了，趋势不好。 |
