China’s president to pressure Beijing to let the market set the value of
the Chinese currency.
Obama spoke to President Xi Jinping on Tuesday night, the White House said
in a statement early Wednesday morning. According to the White House

It was inevitable that China’s economy would slow from its once
turbocharged growth rates. But its leaders have made so many mistakes in
recent months that they have turned what should have been a benign, natural
slowdown into a chaotic descent.
China’s main stock index fell nearly 10 percent for the week, depressing
stock and commodity prices elsewhere. These drops are not in themselves a
big economic proble... 阅读全帖

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-china-idUSKBN1470OH
By Sarah N. Lynch | WASHINGTON
President-elect Donald Trump's incoming White House chief of staff on Sunday
played down the prospect that Trump would revisit Washington's decades-old
"one China" policy, even though he suggested as much a week ago.
Since 1979, the United States has acknowledged Taiwan as part of "one China"
but Trump prompted a diplomatic protest from Beijing af... 阅读全帖

China’s Vice President Wang Qishan recently announced that Beijing is ready
to have discussions with the United States and “work for a solution” on
trade challenges. It sounds impressive, especially since President Xi
Jinping just made a similar pledge that China is ready to “advance an open
world economy.”
Unfortunately, we’ve heard this from Beijing literally hundreds of times
before. And nothing ever changes.
Here’s the bottom line: China remains the most protectionist nation on
earth. For ye... 阅读全帖

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese and Japanese leaders have unveiled initiatives to
tighten financial links between East Asia's economic giants and sometime
rivals — measures that could expand use of China's tightly controlled
currency abroad.
During a visit to Beijing by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, the two
governments said in a surprise announcement Sunday they wi... 阅读全帖

FROM the outside, China often appears to be a highly centralized monolith.
Unlike Europe’s cities, which have been able to preserve a certain identity
and cultural distinctiveness despite the homogenizing forces of
globalization, most Chinese cities suffer from a drab uniformity.
But China is more like Europe than it seems. Indeed, when it comes to
economics, China is more a thin politica... 阅读全帖
