上个星期，地铁公司出事故，一个工人死亡。事故后，Chief Coroner说可能会进行训查。问同事 coroner 是什么意思，同事告诉我是 “验尸官” 。我不明白，事故发生后，验尸官验尸是再正常不过的事，为什么还要公开表示 “可能介入调查”呢？
打开 answers.com, 发现是这样解释的：A public officer whose primary function is to investigate by inquest any death thought to be of other than natural causes. （其主要工作是对被怀疑为非自然死亡的事件进行调查的政府官员。）按照这个解释，我觉得应该把这个词翻译为：非正常死亡调查官。能够担当这个职位的人通常要有律师或医生资格。
又查 wiki，发现与英国 coroner 相对应的职位，在美国是 medical examiner，当然，不光名称有所变化，专业要求也略有区别：medical examin |

第一次看Renaissance的歌剧, (准确的说, 第一次现场看歌剧 //blush...)
感觉还行吧. 久仰Monteverdi和Poppea的盛名, 又加上听Handel的歌剧
听的正来劲, 早就心向往之了, 连下午的seminar都差点向教授请假,
赶着去看歌剧了. Monteverdi也可以称作意大利歌剧之父, 现存真正
可以称作杰作的最早的意大利歌剧就是他的奥非斯, Handel, Rossini,
Verdi等都是他老人家的徒子徒孙辈. Coronation of Poppea是Monteverdi
歌剧的巅峰之作, 讲的是暴君尼禄的故事, 可以说歌剧主要的题材,
爱情与背叛, 权力和阴谋, 这部歌剧里面全占了, 比较不可理解的是
结局是坏人阴谋得逞, 好人有的被杀, 有的被流放, 感觉那个时代是不
是就是那么颠倒黑白(联想起马基亚维利时代的意大利, 呵呵). 整个
舞台的布置和服饰都很简洁现代, 很搞笑的是尼禄的卫兵整得象是FBI
特工一样, 好多场景的背景是国会山和Was |

a shallow grave in Indiana.
The coroner has tentatively identified the body as former Eastern Kentucky
University exchange student Yan Gu.
Police say UK graduate student Dong Zhang led officers to the body this past
weekend.
Monday, police say Zhang tried to kill himself at the Fayette County detention
center.
The Jackson County, Indiana coroner's office says Gu was strangled. They also

Seymour, Ind.
Jackson County Coroner Andy Rumph said he believes the victim is 24-year-old
Yan Gu, based on statements made by University of Kentucky student Dong Zhang,

campus Wednesday morning was a junior majoring in agribusiness, UI officials
said Thursday.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Mimi Liu, 20, of Chicago died
at 10:39 a.m. Wednesday at Carle Foundation Hospital's emergency room after
being hit by a pickup truck as she and another woman walked along Lincoln
