爬有雪的是11月到明年四月, crampon， ice axe， gaiter 足够应付, 全部加起来可
能就$300左右.
周日天气不错，估计有crampon+登山杖就可以上了， 真的不行可以选择不登顶. |

按照原来计划7点在210/2 公路旁集合卡普
周日装备我觉得有crampon+登山杖就可以了, crampon 可以到REI去租.
打酱油的可以戴上登山杖走到哪就算哪.

DC不需要route finding省了很多精力，travese的路都给踩出来了，省了很多体力
DC最陡的那段guiding companies set up 好了fixed rope
这次天气晴好，很多地方都不用crampon，我穿的super gaiter的boot也太热了
大概有１０个左右的cravasse，早点出发，过snowbridge安全，走起来也轻松，而且也
有人照应
如果你是和我一样的天气去，少带衣服，多带水，大概每１小时吃一个energy bar补充
体力
一罐气刚刚好够２人化雪煮吃的，刚好完全用完
防晒，防晒，防晒！我已经每几个小时补了防晒霜,一有空就拿个防晒sticker在脸上乱
涂一通了，可是上山和下山肤色还是差太多了！

话说为什么要爬Rainier，我现在已经忘掉了，但我去年把它列上了今年的to do list

周六起个大早赶到local的black diamond店, 8:00AM还不到, parking lot就人多多,
象摆地摊一样, 一家一家的放满了各种gear, 衣服, pack, climbing gear, kayak...
好多东东都叫不出名字, 咳才发现自己outdoor 还没入门. 最让偶动心的是一副
rossingol bandit B3的板子带binding, 尺寸也刚好, 才要125刀, 就是刃开始有点生
锈了, 腰部有明显P-tex的痕迹, 还是忍住了. 再有就是一副G???的12 point crampon,
是铝的, 要75刀, 算算和自己在REI 20%再加dividend买下的BD 也差不多. 转了一圈,
crampon就已经没了.

I had a hike last Sunday afternoon. Start @ Aspen Groove, Timpagnogos
trailhead at 1:40PM, elevation is 6900ft, with most of snow gears including:
ice axe, crampon, gaitor etc. the pack is 23~25 lb. @ 3:20PM, I was at
8500ft and found the summer hiking trail was blocked by a pack of steep snow
and I could not get through or pass by. So, I returned to 8000ft, (which
is a long switch back) and put on my crampon and start to walk on snow. @ 5 |

发帖数: 385 | 6 just a friendly reminder about using snowshoes on icy or hard-pack snow
slopes. I think it is important to remember that the snowshoes can react
similar to crampons if you lose control and start sliding a long distance.
Also, snowshoes are too big, less flexible, and reduce the balance and
control on harder snow and ice surfaces. The crampon under the snowshoe
binding and or the snowshoe itself may suddenly catch on an obstacle.
This could cause you to lose more control and even cause an injury |

急情况下的self-arrest
有三种情况不要坐滑:
1. 穿着crampons的时候
2. 在glacier上
3. 前方看不清的时候(很可能下面有悬崖)
尽管这三个原则反复强调, 还是有很多"高手"喜欢冒险.
去年第一次上Adams的时候, 有人穿crampons坐滑, 结果扭伤了脚踝
我去年上basic climb school的时候, leader给我讲, 他以前爬rainier, 下山的时候,
见到有人在glacier上坐滑, 他劝了两句, 结果对方不听. 滑了不到100尺, 就掉到冰
缝里去了.
至于坐滑掉到悬崖下面去的例子, 也是数不胜数的. |

全程用trekking poles
因为不下雨，底下路况不错，不过山上雪明显比大前天厚了，
看来这两天下得挺厉害。
最后一段100米非常滑，因为偷懒不想上crampons浪费了很多时间，
走两步滑一步，呵呵。
今天天气不错，不过山顶风很大。
今天下来的时候用的yaktrax，感觉效果不错，下次就用它了，省一省crampons。

I am interested in the Mr. Hood training, however, I don't know my schedule
yet. I will sign on once I can confirm my schedule.
In the meantime, I have a few questions for the gears. (I have never snow
climb before)
1. How much are the rental for crampons, boots, ice axe ? For the helmet,
should I use snowboard helmet or rockclimbing helmet?
2. Could you recommend for a typical pairs of typical boots, crampons and

Regarding your questions, answers are in line.
schedule
Rental for crampons, boots, ice axe cost around 30 bucks.
Sure you can use your rock climbing helmet, for climbing, we use the same
one.
For general mountaineering (not involved vertical ice climbing), a pair of
waterproof hiking/backpacking boots with strap-on crampons work very well.
Also, get a regular ice axe |

Yesterday my friends Adam and Indri went with me up Baldy Bowl.
Unfortunately I witnessed my first mountaineering accident. There was a
group of 4 in front of us in the bowl. One of the guys wife's fell and the
husband tried to stop his wife from falling. The two were both wearing
crampons but chose to use their hiking poles instead. They didn't even have
