it, the more I am convinced that it was a great nation, up to mid-eighteenth
century. Contrary to most Chinese, I thought Chinese, not the foreign
powers, were the culprit of China's decline. Fundamentally, my thesis is
Chinese bungled--even shot themselves in the foot.

人，外国人”。
自中国打开大门后，越多越多的外国人涌入中国。现今，中国少数地方，甚至中国人倒
变得像“外国人”似的。
除了旅游者外，有些老外在华留学、工作，多数当“华漂”。
其中，有些外国人确实是“外国的雷锋”。前两年感动全中国的美国青年丁大卫就是其
中典型的一位。他曾在甘肃的国家级贫困县东乡教书，夫妻每月一共才７００元工资，
但是他还用工资给学生们买文具，送食品。后来，他应聘到西北民族学院当老师，学院
给他定的月薪是1200元。他打听了解到，在兰州，这属于高工资，于是要求减少到900
元。学校一再坚持不减，大卫也决不退让，“怎么也不能超过1000元”，最后学校只好
降到950元。
但是，也确实有不少洋“混混”。有个美国青年乔治，在中国混了些年，是个典型的“
华漂”。后来觉得腻了，便打道回府，回美国老家了。才住了几天，就受不了，最后，

like Bernie Madoff.
The radical Left has infected public education like we’ve never seen before
, and because of it, students in Tennessee are now being taught that ‘Allah
is the only God.’
