上搜不到相关帖子），简单地小结一下。一句话就是，RAID repair/extend是最耗时的
，而且在DSM的限制下只能顺序做而不能并行，为了节省时间、pipeline你的操作，最
好把repair/extend放在最后做。如果顺序不对，三天就可以完成的操作可能要等一周
以上。
具体来说（尼玛为什么找不到文档和讨论），就是，如果某一个 disk group 在repair
/extend的时候，下述操作是允许的：
0. Perform data scrubbing on another disk group
但下述操作均不被DSM允许，必须要等当前disk group repair完：
1. 终止repair/extend该disk group——唯一的终止办法是强行拔出该disk group里所
有硬盘，crash掉重来。
2. Repair/extend其他disk group——必须一个disk group一个disk group地顺序
repair，无法同时做。

installed solaris 9 4/03, and the USB disk is formatted in FAT32.
My problem is:
1: Machine can find the USB disk (type "cfgadm"), and files /dev/dsk/c2t0d0s0
to /dev/dsk/c2t0d0s7 are created. But I cannot mount any one (I/O error).
2: It is ok to connect the disk to Sun workstation permanently, and format
the disk to unix file system. But how to do it? I do not even know format
which disk from c2t0d0s0 to c2t0d0s7.

要叫disk首先得是圆形的。就算不考虑形状限制，因为自带控制器，类比hard disk
drive，最多可以叫solid state disk drive。这也从另一方面说明drive有一定合理性

is always very high(about 95%) when I use JBuilder3.5.
The CPU load is ok, usually at 5~10%. It seems it's
always busy reading and writing the disk. I don't know
why...Guru here, it's that because sth like "swap"
config? where should I check? This is a new SUN Ultra 5
with 128M RAM. The disk space has about 3G left yet.
The disk r/w makes the system extremely slow! Even
when I switch between netscape windows, it takes about

First, I installed Solaris8.0 and WindowsXP on it and they work pretty good.
Now, I change ONLY the hard disk to a new 40GB one and re-install Solaris8.0
and WindowsXP. The first 4GB of the hard disk is given to Solaris, and the
rest is given to XP. XP is installed without problems and works find. However,
Solaris always says "there is no room in the disk, you need to delete a
partition before creating a new partition for Solaris." But there IS 4GB
unused |

different SCSI disks from PCs. So I just wonder if it's easy to buy a SCSI

it from SUN?

现在在xp home的系统下这个HDD不能被读。它被disk management
认为foreign, 需要convert成basic disk才能被用，但是里面的
东西会全部丢失。
我查了，发现xp home不支持dynamic disk, 才造成上面问题。那
有什么软件解决这个问题呢？我希望能 convert it to basic
disk without loosing data...

I am performing a very simple experiment with DB2.
The query is: select count(*) from table1
I am interested in the disk I/O activities.
Is there any way to ensure disk access? I.E. to clear
the database's cache. The 2nd (and later)run is lightening fast, presumably no
disk access.
I've tried
1. db2stop, clear the OS cache, db2start
2. select * from some large junk tables and then repeat 1.
The query still runs very fast.

硬盘是cluster的scratch disk,很大.估计是几个硬盘拼起来的,当然mount上来只显示
一个巨大的硬盘
是不是raid不知道(怎么看?)
iostat看到device从sda一直到sdm一共十二个,但只有其中一两个在读写,
其它的都是0,估计我的数据就存在这一两块盘上,所以20几个program就一起从这个盘上
读写,自然就慢了
有没有方法让程序指定读写哪个device? 这样平衡一下负载,快一点
硬盘只有我在用,所以其它的不写的disk也是空的,只是我不知道怎么利用起来
哪位高人给指点指点? |

1）刹车的时候重心前移，前轮的制动效果更好，如果前轮刹车过热了，对刹车效果造
成的影响比后轮刹车过热大很多。换句话说，就是前轮刹车更重要一些。
2）可能随着技术的增长，disk brake的成本也越来越低了，而且可能车厂跟车厂的重
视的领域不一样吧。我记得小时候看F1的时候，当时麦克拉轮车队的威廉牛富（好像是
这个名字）跟车王舒马赫，我记得当时评论员就说麦克拉轮赛车的刹车不如法拉利，但
是加速性能远远胜过法拉利，后者就比较平均，所以在看比赛的时候，威廉牛富入弯的
时候就要提前刹车，出弯加速非常快，舒马赫就可以晚点再刹车，但是出弯加速略满。
当时舒马赫就是利用了麦克拉轮车刹车弱需要提前刹车的缺点，在弯道晚刹车，然后超
过了威廉牛富，出弯以后卡住位等自己的车速度上来，就坚持这样，虽然中途卡位失败
过几次被威廉牛富超越，但是最后还是能胜出。
扯远了，我的意思就是，drum刹车可能也有好的有坏的，disk也一样，所以菜车也有可
能用的是比较烂的disk刹车。 |

了，还是小心伺候一下。以下心得不一定适合你的车。
1.换disk很容易，特意看了支点，jacking point，jacking and stand point，不是ME
，我很纳闷，难道jacking point 和stand point还不同？有受力区别吗？当然，千斤
顶不平的话中学物理单位面积压力较高，类似针头穿肉的效果，但是哪有那么脆弱的车
，把jacking 和 stand point分开让我这个EE不解。
2.支一边就够了，轮子也能扭转角度，记得支千斤顶前loose wheel nut.
3.shoes: 拿下时候不用弄弹簧，上新的把弹簧弄好，这样不用累个半死挂弹簧。
4.我买drum买错了，拆下来发现drum是有bearing 、hub的，我买的没有，敲了一圈没
有下来不敢乱来了，导致我还是用的旧drum。 |
