"There has been a continuing discussion of whether neurological disorders
and mood disorders may be linked to creativity, a discussion that goes back
to Aristotelian times.[300][301] British literature gives many examples of
reflections on depression.[302] English philosopher John Stuart Mill
experienced a several-months-long period of what he called "a dull state of
nerves", when one is "unsusceptible to enjoyment or pleasurable excitement;
one of those moods when what i...

the woods are lovely, dark and deep. (robert frost)
all the lives we ever lived and all the lives to be, are full of trees and
changing leaves. (virginia woolf)
Midway through our life’s journey I went astray
from the straight road and woke to find myself
alone in a dark wood. how shall i say
what wood that was! i never saw so drear,
so rank, so arduous a wilderness!
its very memory gives a shape to fear.

Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,
Retreating, to the breath
Of the night-wi...

1)
I look for what I miss;
I know not what it is.
I feel so sad, so drear,
So lonely, without cheer.
So dim, so dark,
So dense, so dull,
So damp, so dank, so dead.
2)
A flat-top forest stretches far in embroidered mist,
A cluster of mountains cool is tinged with heartbreak blue.
3)
How much sorrow, pray, can a person carry?
Like the spring torrent flowing eastward without tarry.
4)
The boundless forest sheds its leaves shower by shower,
The endless river roll its waves hour after hour....

Chapter 34
The aircar rocketed them at speeds in excess of R17 through the
steel tunnels that lead out onto the appalling surface of the
planet which was now in the grip of yet another drear morning
twilight. Ghastly grey lights congealed on the land.
R is a velocity measure, defined as a reasonable speed of travel
that is consistent with health, mental wellbeing and not being
more than say five minutes late. It is therefore clearly an
almost infinitely variable figure ac
