决定申请NSC EB1A时也觉得自己背景不强，抱着死马当活马医的心态开始申请的。从版
上学到很多，因为硬件不强，材料的挖掘和组织就尤其重要，有几点心得和大家分享：
1. 文章数量不多，强调质量，杂志都很好，cover article，在exhibit list里把
journal paper和conference abstract放在一起，显得数量上多一些。
2. 引用数量不多，PL中只提到一次绝对的引用数量，把重点放在本学科内的比较，如
exhibit list里列出的，Top % by ISI， Top % in Google search, 有来自多少的领
域的多少位科学家在多少本杂志上引用了我的工作等。

While it is important to demonstrate folk's force, maybe we also should
exert another type of force -- financial force. A simple call from the main
donor to the assemblymen could be more effective than a thousand calls/
emails from grassroot. Is anyone doing such things? Is there a way to find
the main sponsor of each assembly member? |

I've lived in TX for over 10 yrs and I, too, initially was puzzled by the
lack of basements. However, I now realize there are two good reasons why
most houses are built here without basements. A large part of TX has heavy
clay shrink/swell soils (Vertisols) that swell when wet and shrink and crack
(and I'm talking cracks that can be 6 or more inches wide and greater than
