Massive self-organized relocation from coastal areas (refugees)
The breakdown of rescue or other notable governmental functioning
The breakdown of the food supply system
The breakdown of the vehicular transport system
Extensive loss of buildings near coasts

I was born in Shanghai in 1961 and grew up during the Cultural Revolution.
During my childhood, I saw my family lose our house. My grandfather, who
studied medicine in England, committed suicide after he was wrongly accused
of being a counterrevolutionary and a foreign spy.
Those were the worst of times.

There is no particularly special technology needed to make a chainsaw. It's
really just plastic and metal parts screwed together with old-fashioned nuts

German power-tool manufacturer Stihl from selling its made-in-Germany
chainsaws around the world, even though its top-end models are among the

Trump and the Emasculated Voter
There’s only one way to protect the nation from Hillary Clinton,
and that is to vote for Donald Trump.
By DAVID GELERNTER
Oct. 14, 2016 6:41 p.m. ET
Some conservatives have watched their evaluations of Donald Trump’s
character drop so low in recent days that on this vital question they no
longer see a choice between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Accordingly,
they are forced back onto politics and policy; and naturally Mr. Trump wins
in a walk. If conservatives...

A truly great business must have an enduring “moat” that protects
excellent returns on invested
capital. The dynamics of capitalism guarantee that competitors will
repeatedly assault any business
“castle” that is earning high returns. Therefore a formidable barrier such
as a company’s being the lowcost
producer (GEICO, Costco) or possessing a powerful world-wide brand (Coca-
Cola, Gillette, American
Express) is essential for sustained success. ...

I see people have covered just about every aspect of the pros and cons of
saving money, maybe this has something to do with age, when you are younger,
you tend not think much about future as older people do, younger people are
more interested in fun things to do, but are less wary of the danger of not
saving enough, they will think differently as they grow older and more
realistic stuff kicks in, it is certainly very farsighted if people know to
save when they are younger but it only becomes all

The worst sort of business is one that grows rapidly, requires significant
capital to engender the growth, and then earns little or no money. Think
airlines. Here a durable competitive advantage has proven elusive ever since
the days of the Wright Brothers. Indeed, if a farsighted capitalist had
been present at Kitty Hawk, he would have done his successors a huge favor
by shooting Orville (Wright) down.

The rap on Donald Trump is he’s all bluster. The New York Times says he’s
offering “incoherent mishmash.” Former GOP rival Ted Cruz claimed Trump
has “no idea” how to fix the economy.
Don’t believe it.
The Trump campaign is putting forward proposals to fix problems from the
long waits for medical care at Veterans Affairs facilities to the impending
collapse of ObamaCare.
Check out Trump’s economic plan, for starters. Unlike Hillary Clinton’s
anti-business agenda, Trump’s plan would actually help...

The roots of the University of California go back to the gold rush
days of 1849, when the drafters of the State Constitution, a group of
vigorous and farsighted people, required the legislature to "encourage
by all suitable means the promotion of intellectual, scientific, moral
and agricultural improvement" of the people of California. California
had few families in 1849 and few children to educate, but these early
planners dreamed of a university which eventually, "if properly
