Basically I agree with you. Only a little comment: If you think that west
has DA, then the only hope for the contract is to get 4 spade tricks and
4 club tricks, as you said. The only oppurtunity for 4 spade tricks is
3-3 split, we have to assume that (if we do not care how many tricks
we will down). Then the only thing we can do is to improve our chance to
get 4 tricks of club. I think the way is to cash CA or CQ first and then
make the finesse. |

1. Spades 4-4 and Queen is on side(West), you can ruff finesse to make it.
2. Or play Queen third and drop by ruffing 2 little spades.
If West had been led away from Queen, you can see whether anyone plays the
deuce in the following round. And from their convention, you probably will
have a clue whether West led away from 4 spades, or 3 maybe 5.
Without any clue, I guess Queen drop is more likely then 4-4 and Queen onside. |

No she won't, but she may finesse club in the third round. :-) |

it's unlikely that you hold trump Jxxx and doubled -- that
would be rather suicidal. So commiting to a first round
finesse is a bit too rich. Therefore if you double was real,
you'll need to have all the trumps. But in that case there's
no legitimate line as you have both 8 and 7 and trump coup

Even if you don't have the 7, which makes th |

1. What is the contract? :-) assume 7S here
2. Cross ruffing doesn't need finesse DK, does it? use CQ to
drop the D.
3. It looks the second way is better, because the first one
needs 3-3 split
of the trump, and 3-2 split of H, while the first one needs
3-4 Club & 2-3 H. |
|
w****b 发帖数: 623 | 19 A bit but not too much, under this auction leading from Ax
and Qx are equally likely -- or unlikely, depending on
whichever way you look at.
In less competitive games, especially in pairs, you most
likely will finesse since leading from Qxx instead of Axx is
more likely. In high level competition, however, it's always
a good idea to play the K, just to pay due respect to
opponents -- or, rather, refuse to give opponents the rights
to brag. |
|
w****b 发帖数: 623 | 20 Hehe, really simple in IMPs. I can claim on trick one: ruff,
use 2 trump entries to ruff 2 more D and lead C to 7. Or
cover if East plays 9 or 10.
I'll probably do the same in MP as bidding and making this
slam will be worth some matchpoints. I'll risk everything by
finessing CJ in board-a-match. The percentage of overtrick
vs undertrick is roughly 34% vs 15% , which is distinctively
better. |
|
w****b 发帖数: 623 | 21 Since you have only 1 entry back to hand, it's really a guess whether West has
CK doubleton or tripleton. So I would play 4 rounds of D and finesse the CQ.
If West follows to the 3rd round of D, I'll play him for doubleton so duck a C
to his bare K. Otherwise try the A and C. If he follows to the 4th of D then
you can be relatively sure he's doubleton in C. |

y****e 发帖数: 71 | 22
Hehe, thought it is 6H contract. 6NT is a somewhat risky bidding, if not in
MP play I will not try that one.
Also, even for 6NT, you cannot assume opp always find the right lead, even for
expert, wrong lead towards a slam contract is very common. I still think you
either cheat (watch others cards), or you are crazy to pull a play like that,
especially finesse with club 9 when 10 and J outside. |
|
m*******g 发帖数: 3 | 23 I agree that this play was only lucky. Since there are only 10 tricks,
south needs to get one from spade first by leading low from his own hand,
and if it fails lead low from dummy. After either succeeds, double squeeze is
very likely. The chance to make 6N is close to 60% (maybe higher), I would
say.
Finesse JT has a chance slightly less than 25% (not exactly 25%). If you want
to become a good player, forget about this bad example by wimptb.
