发帖数: 1453 | 1 五月是美国各大学的学生毕业的时间，毕业典礼一般都集中在五月中下旬。美国毕业典
礼的细节虽然跟中国的不大一样，但是从整体的体制来看，中国大学一般来讲是仿效美
国的体制，所以没有本质上的不同。虽然我们的体制跟美国的一样，但是在一些用词的
方面还存在着很有趣的不同，这些不同也许反映了我们的大学体制和英美大学体制的历
史的来源的不同和观念上的不同。因为欧洲大陆的大学体制跟英美很不同，所以我在这
里只讨论英美的大学制度。
先来看看“学位”这个词。如果“顾名思义”的话，这个词在汉语里的意思就是“学之
位”，具体的“学”是什么意思，我想可以理解为“学问、学术、学业”等等。“位”
就是“位置”，也许还可以有“地位”这样的引申的含义。在英语里，学位这个词一般
是degree。这个词的来源于通俗拉丁语的 degradus。这个词可以分析成de+gradus。
Gradus的意思就是台阶，比如古罗马建筑常见的那种石头台阶。De表示动作的方向“下
”。所以degradus的字面意思就是“向下的台阶”。但是通常的意思就是“台阶”而已
。所以degree本身来自表示“台阶”的意思的degradus。因为台阶有级别 |
