When composing an essay or writing a letter or proposal, I often check "my
English" on google to see whether Americans use the way I am using.
For example, if you want to write down "to improve my English", yet not sure
if the word "improve" is the right one, you can type in "to improve my
English" in google, and find:
the first pop-out is:

这本书我觉得不适合这么小的孩子看得。这本书是关于style的,小孩子要那种
comprehensive and detailed gramar
book. 如果是reference book, 我推荐practical english usage, by Michael Swan.
国内好像有翻译版。
另外,对付考试还是要用老师指定的,因为对语言来说,其实是有很多种用法都正确的
,所以才有很多style books, 但是国
内考试不是这样的,只有一种正确答案。

As to the concern of wrong pronunciation or gramar issues in the part of
parents, it is unfounded. I talked to my child since an early age in
English, and I actually learned from my child many correct English idioms
and usuages afterwards. My child also tries to improve my LD's
pronunciation. So the reverse might be true, at least in my case.

Dude, writing and speaking are different. You can get away from gramar error
in speech but you will get caught in writing. I don't see significant
error between "buy stuff in Or at a store". However, I would use "buy stuff
FROM a store"...
