It was stuck from lack of use. Before I took the GX to a gravel area as
suggested by IanB2, I read the manual carefully. It suggests to drive it in
reverse when the VSC OFF and the Center Diff Lock lights are on. I put it in
reverse in my driveway, and before I go to the end of the driveway the
lights went off. IanB2, thanks for the suggestion. I bet doing eights on a
gravel road would have unlocked the center diff also. |

The gravel base will help your concrete foundation stay away from water and
winter heaving. But you still need to properly grade the patio so that the
rain water will run away: either to the center and catch it in a catch basin
connected to perforated drainage pipe - or slightly slope it to somewhere
else, make sure the water is not flowing towards your house.

2. and there is no foot traffic.
If the seepage on your basement wall is not so well below ground, one of the
things you can try is,
1. Dig up along the basement wall to the depth where the seepage occurs.
Make the drench 4' wide.
2. Waterproof the exterior wall, I'll just use the stuff sold in HD or Lowes
for such purpose. (Man, the stuff they carry changed a lot over last 20

要想平整需要gravel，实在要求低也得要沙子
就算土地上直接铺砖你自己计算一下就知道了，呵呵
我帮你算一下，如果20 x 20 ft，很小一块地方
需要1800快 4x8的那种最便宜的砖
沙子可能要几百袋子，估计只有运来堆一大堆才合算了
这种活就这么做也不是很professional，没给你算gravel ...
更别说你挖地的消耗了，呵呵 |

prefer a leveled ground. In that case, back fill the trench with loose
gravels.
Drainage gravel will do the trick, but for aesthetic reasons, you might pick
something more colorful, as long as it goes with with your house siding. |

我见过浇水泥的,没见过铺砖的.但我猜原理应该是一样的,沿着房子浇水泥的时候应该要
保证水泥是一个斜面让水流走,我觉得铺砖也要考虑这一点.
这样的话,你有3尺的斜坡向外流水,砖本身不透水,砖缝的砂子也能吸一部分水,大部分水
应该是流走了,能渗到gravel下面的水已经很少了.这里的gravel主要是起支撑作用.

cmpactor夯平一下，下面铺上防止草穿透的landscape fabric，然后铺了大概2-3 inch的
gravel，到HD租compactor，用水浇湿gravel，然后夯实，并且做到大致水平。再在上
面铺1 inch的砂，可以用两根1 inch的水管做厚度的参照。
最后在上面铺砖，边铺边量水平，用砂来调整，保证靠地基的地方要高点，再夯一次。
我朋友家的drive way也是这样做的，我们干了大概有5个周末，没给累死。 |

gravels would allow the water to sink in.
For those house with basement foundation, chances are frost also come a lot.
Gravels are self-healing after frost damage, and concrete is not. Actually,
in the cold north, few driveway are concrete for the same reason. |

之前上来问张国平做院子如何，主要是想做retaining wall，挖土，版上有人说清洁院
子还不错，我想中国人好沟通，应该不会差到哪去，找他估了价格就叫他开始做，说好
了做之前签个合同，结果当天早上给了我个名片写了"付3.5k"当收据，然后说完工的时
候签contract。
填院子的部分是用现有的土填，开始说好给compact，我说要每铺一层土就要compact一
下，一层土8inch吧，张说好。结果开工了就打算用挖土机挖土的时候来回走几遍就算是
compact了。
挖土不说了 都是血泪，我后来找别人来看院子人说这土弄得不好，增加工作量了。
说说retaining wall吧.他的两个手下，挖了能有3、4inch深的土，开始铺gravel。我要
建的retaining wall有3尺高，按照正规来说要先挖沟，沟的深度要足够埋一块6"厚的砖

Buy tracks to make sure that they are in line. At some corners u may also
need to cut pavers too.
I just did 150 sq ft and got a quote of 3800 bucks.
Homedepot has 1x1 pavers on sale on Labor Day, abt $1.32 per sq ft. Gravel
and sand can be bought in local building material stores,about 20 bucks per
ton, better than hd who sells them in bags. |

该是$7-8/sq ft。普通的正常价格也不过是4-5/sq ft。今年自己铺了300sq ft不到的
砖，用的砖是最便宜的打折的 $1/sq ft，主要是因为颜色match，而且是铺在不太重要
的侧面。你如果打算自己铺而且是在正面经常活动的区域，可以选贵的顺眼的paver。
挖多深要看你后院的土质，如果石头很多并且是粘土为主的话，根本不需要挖多深，甚
至不挖，直接在上面加点gravel和沙就可以开铺了。如果是比较松软的，要考虑挖点土
，另外本地雨水多少也有关系，加州的话雨水上，对地基的影响小很多。350 sq ft需
要的gravel和沙子也要以yard计了，建议在本地landscape material的店一起买，不要
买hd或lowes小袋的，无论价格和运费都不是很划算。我铺的300 sq ft成本才500不到。
仔细做的话自己是完全可以做好的，1-2个周末就能搞定，记得买paver edger stake

我家买的paver比较cheap， 1.2-1.4/s.f, 自己买的 sand 和 gravel，材料费大约 $
2600.
patio 共 约1200 s.f. 人工加材料： 4.5/s.f.
你可以买好一点的paver， 人工可以多找找，要个低价。
有时候如果elevation低，你建不了 Deck的。

的玛瑙品质最好。。。不知道是哪里运来的卵石。公认最好的地方是北边的gravel pit
，但是我从来没费力找过。Moose Lake的public gravel pit没什么油水，我已经去看
过了。
玛瑙原产地在苏必利尔湖，但是冰川把石头向南推，所以双城附近也能找到。
苏必利尔湖边因为捡的人多，虽然还能找到但绝大多数都很小，不过那都是货真价实的
苏必利尔湖玛瑙，带小孩去捡挺不错。

没有用那种drain tile，就是接roof gutter downspout水的drain pipe。本来计划是
要做那种gravel, filter fabirc,drain tile with holes的那种的，可挖开地基一看
，以前就没这么做，30多年了，地基还很好，因为我家在坡上，排水通畅，所以就来了
个simplified version的。
我记得，如果用gravel的话，也就是上下左右各6寸的样子，乘个长度就可以了，但外
面一定得包fabric，土的浸透能力还是很强的。
BTW，我的房子的当初的biulder挺不负责任的，估计是当时drain pipe不够了，有几段
drain tile混在pipe line里面了，但外面一点防护措施都没有，就是直接回添的土，
明显能看到土已经进到pipe里面了。我家一直有gutter的水不走downspout的问题，我
估计可能就是这些堵塞的pipe的问题，anyway,再下场雨就知道是不是问题已经解决了。 |

去年就想去参加这个比赛，可惜跟KK的TriKids比赛时间冲突了。今年给K找了个家门口
的kids比赛，我就可以去这个越野三项赛了。越野三项Off-Road Triathlon，ITU（国
家三项协会）称之为Cross Triathlon，就是游泳（还是一样的开水游泳哈，没有越野
游泳），山地车（mountain biking）和越野跑（trail running）。山地车是我的老本
行，所以想想这个比赛应该很适合我。
"Mine" Over Matter 在Kelso Quarry Park举行，几十年前这里是个采石场，挖掘
limestone的，后来居民反对抗议背叛关门卖给了自然保护区，并入了相邻的Kelso自然

out. If you start to panic and tries to stop or turn too much, you'll just
make it worse.
Northeast really get that much ice? I thought it was relatively ok... far
better than the crap that we get here anyway... :) I did skied across some
losee gravel once -- was only my 2nd time on a pair of new skis I bought.
Couldn't see the gravel because a thin layer of snow was covering it, man it
really pissed me off.

There are weed barrier/landscaping fabric under the gravels. So we do not

地挖了六寸深，土拉了几百车
gravel拉了几百车，沙子挖了上百车了，砖搬了好几百块，垒了两个retaining wall了。
这gym挺好，嘿嘿，锻炼身体！
发现送砖的叉车把driveway给压裂了，呵呵。不过无所谓，本来这东西就超级旧了，本
来就要重做的。。。
其实，铺砖的目的地很小一块而已啦。不由得感叹，就这么小一块地方要这么多土石方
外加这么多labor。。。
最累的，刨硬地，搬砖，拖土...
买了4个cubic yard的gravel， 4个cubic yard的沙子，砖总count几千 |

problem would be water change and algae. u need to suck out the waste in
