有碰到过刹车后ABS启动，刹车能力大大不足的情况。想想也对啊，轮子不锁死，
当然刹力就小了很多。但是刚到WIKI上自学了下，上面是这么说的：
ABS generally offers improved vehicle control and decreases stopping distanc
es on dry and slippery surfaces for many drivers; however, on loose surfaces
like gravel or snow-covered pavement, ABS can significantly increase brakin
g distance, although still improving vehicle control.
里面为啥说 "for many drivers"，难道 "for some other drivers"就不是啦？ |

not supposed to go off road. Nothing would be covered if you go off road.
Moreover, there may not be a spare tire on a rental car. If you have a flat
tire on a trail, it would be a nightmare.
There should be Jeep rentals where you can get a Wrangler in Moab. It's
better than renting a GC Overland. It's expensive.

网上查了一下，也有其他厂商的车有这个情况，我觉得我家的车属于grinding noise，
但现在还是不完全确定网上以及dealer说的。当然是希望是正常的机械咬合的声音。
RAV也是朋友家也开，推荐给我的。。还是希望车子没问题。

如果只是从公路上开过去旅游，偶尔跑一段gravel路面（比如去死马那条路），那别说
皮卡，就是Pilot那样的太公SUV也完全够用。而且那边的油田用车都是大量的皮卡（美
国三大，福特居多），维修应该不成问题。
豁车的话，丰田系最可靠。但丰田系也有个上限，总有豁烂的时候。如果你就是专门去
豁车的，也别管什么可靠性了，随便找个车，带上足够的配件和工具。 |

base does have the problem the other guy mentioned: it will mingle with dirt
and leaves and years later, weeds will grow in the space...
If you want to do it right, you should put a few inches gravel (item4, etc.)
, compact as base, then either pour your concrete pad with wire mesh
reinforcement, and then brick and mortar. This will be the best solution.

砖。要是不好好铺一下就可惜了。所以又想铺成水泥BASE的在铺砖了。
有几个问题
1）关于雇老墨，就是直接到HOMEDEPOT门口找？怎么知道人家是LABOR CONTRACTOR，这
边也不像国内都有个牌子。雇老墨主要就是需要挖坑，如果按大师说的估计坑挖的还要
深。
2）如果直接铺4英寸的水泥BASE，那就不需要SAND了吧？
3）另外，请大师看看这个计划可行否。
第一步，找老墨挖坑，900 SQFT，平均要挖8个英寸深，相当于22个CUBIC YARD的土石
方。顺便问一下，这个要加上我和两个老墨挖得多长时间挖完？
第二步，铺2～3英寸的GRAVEL。这个也可以找LOCAL SUPPLIER。
第三步，铺4英寸厚的水泥，一定要4英寸厚吗？还有这个WIRE MESH REINFORCEMENT到
哪买呀？HARDWARE也都挺贵的。
第四步，铺砖抹水泥。
还有一个问题一直很困惑，这个PROJECT不太可能几天内完工。要是刚挖出坑来下雨怎
么办？水都积在坑里，不是会影响房子的地基吗？

basement, craw space和slab on ground。材料可以是concrete, masonry block等。
basement和crawspace下面一般是footing。把上面承受的力，均匀分布到下面的土壤中
。slab on ground，下面是5~7 英寸厚的gravel。
如果原来是湖，地势低。常见的做法是：把湖添平，backfill。当然回填的土会比较松
软，然后打桩，一直打到下面很实的土壤中，或者岩石上。这个中国美国做法都一样。
friction pile。做成friction pile foundation。就和那个“楼倒倒”照片的地下部
分一样。上面是该建什么建什么。不过这也只是算一个“地基”阿。
friction pile这种方法是很常见的，也是经过时间考验的。一般美国居民住宅用的少
，是因为成本太高。大那么多桩，才建一个2-3层的house，太不划算。 |

no soil, only limestones, and they fill some gravel dirt.
they will compact the dirt, not sure how proper....
