I completely disagree with the author of this article. It appears to me that
the political agency that legitimises modern democracies in the West is
based on the need to reach consensus of the middle-class majority. Middle
class as defined by a functional literacy and a fairly evenly distributed (
gender equal also helps) income level where it becomes your interest to
uphold laws that retain the right of property and common decency. It is a
