emia, and agree with the mechanism you said before. however, the lovely side
of academia is you get paid for what you like. it is more than a job, somet
hing like a combination of hobby and job.
few occupations in this world have this property. typically, one does someth
ing he does not like, and thus get paid.

faculty. What I tried to point out is that, if one wants to enjoy the
research life, and wants to appear super successful in the meantime (
basically wants everything), then he may become evil.
A faculty could just enjoy his research life and forget about being famous.
A stable job + flexible schedule + you do what you like to do, why anyone
should still want more.
