大哭，骂街，在地上滚，拿刀子自残，每隔一段时间就来一回。他到现在也不理解，人
为什么会活成这个样子。
中国的问题是，一直在要求人，“ 你应该怎么怎么样”，而没有从人本身来考虑，没
有考虑人的心理要求和局限性。造成一大批压抑的小孩，这些小孩长大就成了不会控制
情绪，或者只靠极端情绪才能发泄的，歇斯底里的人。
当然同样的问题西方也有，不然就不会有hysteric这个词了。但像中国这样一大批
terrible two还没过完的人在街上走，恐怕也是绝无仅有的事。也许还得怪文化大革命

系统生物学这个方向，Tyson 等人从具体的反应和参数入手，发展出来一系列的实验工
具，最后迈向理论层面的动态的调控模型；以色列那帮子人，以 Weizmann Institute
of Science 为代表，直接从寻找 network motif 入手，寻找那些 essential
building blocks of biosystems；汤超是从数学的视角出发，上一篇 cell 通过穷举
的方法（当然做不到那么“穷”）证明了 adaptive systems 的常见的调控结构在数学
上的合理性，有些像是 Weizmann 风格的延伸，这一次则是在 Tyson 等人发展出来的
bi-stable hysteric model 的基础上，不去研究 switching，而是反过来研究
balancing。看汤超这些年的 paper，感觉虽然每一个问题做得都很新颖独到，可是整
体上看，做得还是东一下西一下的，比较散；但是自己的风格也在慢慢浮现出来。但愿
他能逐渐形成自己独到的体系。

搞物理的盲目崇拜到夸张地步了吧？Steven Chu首先也是搞生物的，真正的把physics
的东西用到现代生物并几乎开创一个领域，另外，别人还活着！！！！Feynman再牛逼
，也是上个世纪的人物，评价生物的话还被拿来引用说现代生物？搞笑了点吧？
还有，在一个学科还没迅速发展的时候，确实很多人都可以“染指”，再早几百年很多
人都可以是兼“physicist，chemist，biologist，mathematician”，而且都可以做出
各种贡献，可是现在就很难了，我知道很多人津津乐道Feynman试图做biology，可是我
完全不能同意说他pioneered the original idea of blablabla，拍脑袋想很容易，真
正pioneer要去做，有自己的贡献，才能叫pioneer，Steven Chu才是在biology有
pioneering工作的physicist。
很多人还喜欢去引用Feynman对学生物的学生的评语，什么他教学生biology，学生说“

有几点，仅是我的愚见。
个人觉得lz 对科研打一开始就没有真正的兴趣。 这里的兴趣是指追求通过自己的努力
回答了自己的问题，满足了自己的好奇心而带来的快感。如果做科研的主要动机是做
faculty，这个就不是什么对科研的兴趣了。所以就会出现被老板刁难而丧失所谓的”
科研兴趣”。
我这么说是因为我个人有部分类似的经历。我的前老板基本是个control freak,
highly volatile, emotionally unstable, hysterical. 对实验室彻头彻尾的
micromanaging. 我和她处了半年就打翻了，然后我把她告到HR. HR 给了我一个月的
paid leave 做为补偿。这期间，我找到了另一个顶级学校，把她对我的不良影响降低

章很麻烦，耽误了2个多月，材料才得以从学校寄出。个人觉得申请算是比较顺利。把
我当时准备的情况跟大家说一下也许对将要申请的人有一点帮助。
我个人从这里寄出去的材料包括：
1.国内护士执照的公正，在这里网上找的公证处，在纽约，叫最佳公正，电话
7183212810
2.指纹卡，就在我住的地方的警察局办的，free
3.handbook上的申请表，贴一张照片在右下角（handbook链接：http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/applicants/exam-app.pdf）
这一页有一项是填社会安全号，我当时没有就空着的，没有关系。
4.两张支票，一张办指纹的($51)，一张申请的($75)
5.写了一封信，表示感谢，一张纸，很客气的几句话
从学校寄出的材料：
1.中英文成绩单（学校有，我来之前到学校教务处办好的）
2.学位证书和毕业证书中英文版（来之前自己办好到学校教务处办好的，盖好了章）

均成绩是2180. 换句话说一个学生同样的成绩在其它学区能去伯克利的，但是在Palo
Alto就不一定行了。这就像以前在北京能考上大学的分数在山东连大专都没戏。
2）前两年哈佛共录取了三个。并不多。
3）斯坦福录取的，除了“non-legacy and non-affiliated students”,也就是 a
