候就订了high index的。
结果取回来发现新的镜片不比就的薄（而新旧镜框大小形状是几乎一样的，新镜片度数
实际上还低了一点点）。
回到眼镜店。optician坚持说如果做镜片的过程出错那么做镜片的人就会有大麻烦，所
以不可能出错。并且说high index的主要目的是看的更清楚，而不是更薄。
请问谁知道哪里可以确认／测量镜片的index吗？ |

发帖数: 977 | 4 Index future 因为杠杆太高，如果不是hedged position,过周末有很大的危险。如果
发生了恐怖袭击或Fed突然搞Shock and awe, 或其他一些突发事件，都可能导致index
开盘跳高/空，如果hold wrong position over the weekend，会造成巨大损失甚至
wipe out whole account。虽然是小概率事件，可也不能不防吧。我的想法是，Friday
清掉position，周日晚上再重新建仓，从长期看，周末的普通变动会互相抵消掉，那么
损失的就是一买一卖的transaction cost, 对ES来说，差不多每个contract是30块的损
失（spread 加 fee），是相当大的损失，积累下来一年要有差不多20%的损失，相当于
买了一个很贵的保险。可我觉得这个保险不得不买，另外为降低成本，可以考虑只
close long position，因为周末不太可能出现使index暴涨的意外事件，Fed的举动一
般都是有先兆的。请大家讨论，看有没有更好的保险办法。 |

If one has quite a few papers and doesn't really know which one is the best
in others' eyes, my suggestion is to choose one that makes the H-index cut.
One can use un-biased constraints to narrow down search results to get a
clearer view.
But I don't know if adjudicators recognize the H-index if one wants to use
it in petition. |

先说背景吧。
做的比较杂，总体是biochem方向，也有biophy，biosensor，genetics。所以在pl里
claim “biochem and biophy”。开始很心虚，感觉这个方向好大好广，几乎把半个
science全包进去了。。。估计io根本不care。
publication：17（5篇一作），挂名PNAS，NEJM。
citation：500+，大多来自打酱油的paper，一作citation估计只有100+。只用了
google citation。
review：40+，来自10+个杂志，影响因子从0.8-5不等
推荐信：6封，1个是phd老板，5个independent，来自美国，印度，西班牙，荷兰和中
国。广撒网，发了大概几十封信。有个立陶宛的教授本来很热情的答应给写，结果rl发
过去一个月不会，现在也没消息。不知道是不是因为我的rl写的太高大上，把人家震惊
了，原来牛还是可以这样吹的。。。这里要特别提到中国一位老师，我以前也在版上贴
过，他的回信让我特别感动，说我们这些在外面拼搏的很不容易，老先生尽他最大可能

还有一个问题 exhibit index需要分的多细呢？ 比如说我的project1 下面五
个paper 我谈论他们的引用的时候把我的律师把他们所有的引用比如二三十篇都放在了
一个index下 这样IO多不好找啊 需要不需要每一个再pl里面提到的evidence都给一个
独立的index呢？

citation， citation per paper从而体现自己属于专业top的研究者，现在这个index
不再available了，那现在如何体现？我知道单篇paper可以用ISI percentiles，但是
总体的total citation, citation per paper现在该如何体现top？
我已经收到Chronicle of High Education的回信说那个index是2007年的，他们已经撤
掉了该网页，也不会重新添加回来了。

保险。一般正规的保险人员要拿到相应执照才能卖相应保险，但broker的index whole
life insurance 则没有这样的规定。合同的内容更是和正规保险公司的whole life
insurance 的内容大相径庭，也没有正规保险公司在cash value上的保障。
此类保险与index挂钩，费用高，用于买whole life insurance 的钱是从你帐号里扣除
，再在正规保险公司那里替你买保险，所以保费每年增加。如果收益好，就划算，市场
差的时候就雪上加霜。

目前的一个project需要在mysql里面查询 两个node之间的value,
table columns:
LOOKUPTABLE (INT id, VARCHAR node1, VARCHAR node2, INT value)
问题是这个table有 10 millions rows, 一次select query时间大概是0.8 sec：
select value from LOOKUPTABLE where node1 = 'a' and node2 = 'b';
尝试用index来优化query,但是不知道最优的index应该是哪种？谢谢！包子有赏！ |

If you use select * from employees where upper(last_name) like 'JO%';
It will be gaurantee a full table access.
In your statement,
select last_name from employees where upper(last_name) like 'JO%';
Most likely, if you have an index built on last_name, you will have full
index scan which doesn't do any better performance.
avoid to use 'like' unless you absolutely have to or the table is small and
it's definitely not scalable in the fut |

yet.
btw, you can specify do not create clustered index for PK by default. it was
critical issue for MSSQL 6.5 when creating highly transactional OLTP. e.g.
1,000 inserts/second. it will cause "hotspot" problem when PK with clustered
index.
of course, it is already the history, just mention it for fun. :)
when you see some DB under such scenario, you can say, ha, it was originally
created under 6.5 version! |

1. It depends...这可是一句颠扑不破的话，开头一定要酱紫说。
要看你怎么使用这个日期，如果， 经常来查找一个具体的日期，non-cluster 是恰当
地。 如果，经常要返回一段日期，经常做group by,经常被join， cluster index 就
对了。
2. it depends...
首先cluster index 是执政党，non-cluster 是参政议政的。 执政党只能有一个，参
政党可以有249个。
如果这个是read only 数据库， 木有影响。
如果是OLTP， 每一次cluster index 更新，或者改变涉及这个字段，会导致大量的读
写。作为DBA应该在使用和效率上做出衡量。 |

3. 建立PrimaryKey 和64个完全相同的non-clustered index (只有名字不同）

1. 如果这个表没有一个col有index，肯定是full table scan
2. 至少在oracle,b-tree index里字段如果为null，index不会有相应的键值。如果
count(*)，就算count(index_col)也不能用索引 |

Further reading ...
In SQL server, if a table does not contain a clustered index, when we create
a primary key constraint, SQL server will use the primary key column for
the clustered index key.
So I think we all agree, in most cases, a table should have a primary key,
no matter in oracle or in sql server.
I checked the AdventureWorks sample db in sql server, I saw > 99% table has
clustered index and most is also PK.
So I guess the rule of thumb is likely true in sql server.

querying a table, so I guess it is common to use non-pk index as the
clustered index in sqlserver.
Not sure why clustered index is heavily used in SQLServer, it might be bad
application/table design, less power features in SQLServer, or maybe both.
In Oracle, you have more flexible way to group row data logically together (
Partition) instead of having to use physical method like IOT, which is un-
