if US navy lost all 3 carriers at Midway, US would have commissioned enough
Essex class carriers by early 1943 to fully replace all losses going by the
historical commissioning time. A tragic defeat at Midway would no doubt
have prompted the construction schedule to be pushed ahead, allowing US navy
to recover by end of 1942. |
