Result Kennedy pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of the accident;

The term "Chappaquiddick incident" refers to the circumstances
surrounding the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, whose body was discovered
underwater inside an automobile belonging to Senator Edward M. Kennedy.

上个星期，地铁公司出事故，一个工人死亡。事故后，Chief Coroner说可能会进行训查。问同事 coroner 是什么意思，同事告诉我是 “验尸官” 。我不明白，事故发生后，验尸官验尸是再正常不过的事，为什么还要公开表示 “可能介入调查”呢？
打开 answers.com, 发现是这样解释的：A public officer whose primary function is to investigate by inquest any death thought to be of other than natural causes. （其主要工作是对被怀疑为非自然死亡的事件进行调查的政府官员。）按照这个解释，我觉得应该把这个词翻译为：非正常死亡调查官。能够担当这个职位的人通常要有律师或医生资格。
又查 wiki，发现与英国 coroner 相对应的职位，在美国是 medical examiner，当然，不光名称有所变化，专业要求也略有区别：medical examin |

leaving a young lady to die after accidentally driving his car off a bridge
on the night of July 18, 1969. Kennedy, who swam free, said nothing to
