Currently they are in one of the international schools in Shenzhen.
The requirements for the choosen one is it should provide enough sports
entity, like basketball court, swimming pool etc and well rounded education
system. It seems the tuition is much more expensive than in Shenzhen. 200k
/year. Man, this is the price we can send kid to lab school around
university of Chicago.

现在做的intern, 和我喜欢的方向比较match，给一家finanical公司做tax accounting
intern。工资蛮低的， 但是个难得的机会，所以死活拿下来了， 在跟学校ISS较量一
番之后（他们的政策是在太狗血了。）
实习从学期中间开始的， 马上就寒假了， ISS规定寒假不能做，也不让我enroll
intern的课程。
可是公司那边offer是从开始一直给到明年5月底的。
我该怎么跟公司讲？因为之前申请CPT的事情已经让公司等了一个多月了。
而且手上的活又不能放。
我查到有些学校的Spring intern can start as early as winter intersecession.
我们ISS那些妞们太官僚了。

是不同的,各人性格经历追求都不同, 所以尽管一模一样的edcation background出来的
,以后发展也是千差万别. 回头看自己的经历, 有些觉得做的对有些觉得重来一遍应该
可以做的更好. 后来的师弟师妹随便看看吧,也许多少能借鉴点,或者就当茶余饭后吧.
phd整整4年,第一年summer什么没干就休闲娱乐了,第二个summer老妈来玩东南西北背着
老板偷偷摸摸玩了两个月,第三个summer在local一个公司做intern,和thesis相关. 第
四个summer在外地一个公司intern,和thesis无关.
先随便说几句找intern. 如果你心里没有一心一意的皈依academic,还抱着可能找
industry的想法, 那读书期间做intern是非常有用的. 虽然有点浪费research的时间,
其实summer4个月是做research的黄金时间,但是鱼和熊掌,总要牺牲点什么. intern的
好处无非是1.美化resume,有industry 经验. 2. 挣点钱(phd leve |

转眼一年的intern就要结束了，对于病理从0开始，总算是有了初步的认识。写下来跟
大家分享一下。
我是个铁杆病理，当初申请只申请了这个，最主要原因是看中了不要值夜班，工作时间
相对短，事实证明我是对的也是错的。病理工作时间虽然没有内科长，体现在不用那么
早到，在surgical path我的工作时间平均是早8点到晚7点，偶尔到9点。但是需要大量
阅读，不象内科工作可以学到大部分东西，病理大部分的东西是从书本获得的，自己经
手的case实际非常有限。所以每天保证一定时间的阅读非常重要。
那么作为intern你应该做些什么呢？每个program 的schedule都会不同，但大同小异，
我拣主要的说。
Surgical path
Cover frozen之前，把OR的schedule打印出来看一下，估摸哪些手术会送冰冻，最早的
时候我甚至把可疑的case病史都查一遍copy到word里打印个大概。这样你去取冰冻的时
候就知道外科医生大概要看的是什么。后来我觉得这个有点费时，就不看病史了。因为
冰冻无非是：看边缘是不是切干净了，看良恶性，staging，看组织，... 阅读全帖 |

一下，希望能对更多的同学/同事有帮助.
头几个月肯定是很容易让人沮丧。我也是刚刚完成Intern，那时也很担心自己会不会有
一天突然给Quit了。但是，就是需要坚持。我做的是外科，早上五点到，晚上到六七点
，而且每四个天一次24-30小时On call。所以，坚持就是胜利。另外，我觉的不要给自
己要求太高，也不要想那么多。你只要想，只要你每天都按时出现，就是成功。想多了
，就会引起沮丧。总之，不要想那末多，就是Keep working, that is all you need.
就像电影Finding Nemo里唱的: Just keep swimming!
Intern的工作确实是很琐碎，但是，当你做的熟练以后，你会发现你对你的工作很
knowledgable, 你就会enjoy。比如，当大家都不知道某些电话号码，而你确烂熟于心
，可以毫不犹豫的立刻拨打正确的号码。虽然是小事，会让你感觉很好。
一个Chief Resident 说：你应该在你做的每一件事里发现和珍惜学习的机会。我觉得

鄙人幸运的拿到了两个银行(top tier,但原谅我暂不透露具体名字)的summer intern
offer， 两个offer 中一个做 mortgage, 另一个offer我可以选择：commodities OR
fix income.
我不是很了解两者现在以及将来的market如何， 而且我希望intern结束之后就留在那
个组（其实同时申请了full time position和intern, 不过暂时只有intern offer, 但
觉得这两个银行挺不错的，所以不想继续折腾了），所以诚恳地向大家请教这个offer
选择问题。各位前辈不必说哪个好哪个不好，只希望能告诉我 你所了解的这些market
怎样。

现在再也不敢劝别人转统计。
不过LZ也不要灰心，继续努力，找intern和工作的过程，其实也是自己学习巩固的一个
过程。LZ换了几次专业，没问题，在美国的学统计的人大多数都是换专业的，国内有几
个学校有统计专业啊！但这一点，很多时候，确实不是优势，你要结合自己的背景，投
一些与自己的背景有关系的统计工作，这样可能性会大一些。别人面试你的时候，一定
会问题你为什么要转专业，一定要事先想好一个有说服力但又不减分的理由。
再有，LZ现在只是统计的MS,才读了一年，还没毕业，从我见到的来说，统计MS大部分
在毕业前都找不到intern，我自己也面试过来应聘的MS，说句实话，他们大多数连最基
本的p-value，CI，hypothesis都解释不清楚。很多东西是需要自己做过一些研究或者
项目才能理解的，不是上几门课就行。所以LZ应该focus的是在这个过程中，自己暴露
出来的问题，自己学到了什么，应该加强什么，而不是过分强调结果。这样准备，会为
LZ未来的找工作打下结实的基础。

公司概况是：处于start-up阶段，员工不到10人，处于领导地位的几位都是PHD，并且
有丰富的工业或者学术背景，公司另外几个员工也都是这个地方的名牌大学毕业，从他
们做的东西感觉这个小team很creative。
不过我有几个concerns：1.经过他们的介绍以后才知道他们很偏重research，这个小团
队主要研究一些新的测量宏观经济发展的方法，通过研究写report或者publication,
而不是solve clients’ problems. 这和我的期望不是很一样。我读经济相关专业的博
士学位，读博期间偏重数据分析，也对数据分析存在极大兴趣。最近一直复习统计知识
以及学习SAS，SAS水平有了很大的提高，以后找PERMANENT工作仍然希望能偏重数据分
析。不知道这样的工作对以后找其他业界的工作有多大帮助。2. 这个工作要求full-
time intern，已经说明有可能转permanent employee。不过我觉得即使转正了可能pay

提工资居然还要求三天内就要给答复，再加上只有一轮面试这个事实，使我有点怀疑这
个internship的质量……唯一在网上搜到的一点信息是说工资低但转正率高……如果哪

想想大公司应该不会把intern做得很差，但基于以上种种事实……而且其他公司还没面

(2) your manager wants you
(3) you will graduate within one year. (May is fine).
In 2009, almost all Cisco new hires from schools
(1) were interns before
(2) got offers when the intern period finished. |

如果去了这次，毕业后不去full time是不是不好？这之间有commitment吗？
因为部门主管曾经给我说过，他们招intern的目的就是为以后招full time做预备。我
现在去占了别人的名额，最后又不去full time，有点拿不准啊。。又不想直接拒掉，
毕竟给的intern待遇挺诱人（对于一个苦逼phd来说） |

背景： 东部一校 ph.D。已经第五年了。 paper 没有发得特别好，属于比较能做具体
事情的人。项目倒做得挺多。
去年被导师卖到西部一家中国人的小公司打工，美其名曰Intern. 但是其实是 这家公
司给了老板一笔钱，老板收了一半，剩下的一半发给我做工资。因为没有使用cpt 时间
。 （这大概在美国是不合法的吧？） 派我来之前，说是让我在西部找工作，找到工作
就毕业。
这月机缘巧合找到一个心仪公司的summer intern, 虽说是summer intern 但是之后还
是很有可能留下来的。做的方向也比较match. 面试也都过了。各方面比较满意。跟老
师提起来，老师竟然不同意。 想来 是因为老师收了中国小公司的钱，签了1年的合同
之类。所以现在我拍屁股走人，他说不行，其实我也有师妹可以接替我来做。但是老板
说 这是一个summer intern，等我找到正式的offer 拿着offer 再去找他谈。
思绪有点乱，但是请教各位，我该咋办？
再继续 跟导师argue 还是 随遇而安。

。据说明年夏天的intern一般今年11月12月就得开始投简历面试。本人转专业到cs，本
科零背景，也没做过项目，到申请的时候简历非常平平。现在在考虑要不要尝试申请。
目前有几个问题想请教一下：
1. 申请intern被拒的话会不会和full-time job被拒一样留下纪录，以后都不能再申呢？
2. 找intern和找工作的准备上有什么不同？大多intern面试完半年后才开始实习，这
期间经过课程和project的训练，再加上自己的练习，还是有很大的提高空间的。 所以
面试官会不会因此网开一面，多给些机会呢？

为在校生一个累积经验的机会了，没有经验的就要从 intern 做起了...难道还有比
intern更低更廉价的位置，比如义务工之类的... |

司的网页，发觉写招intern的页面都很general，没说到底有什么组，招哪些人，只是
写了让online submit application或者CV之类的，真心觉得如果这样直接申请的话不
大靠铺有戏的样子。
学校的career center也去了，真正能搜到posting页面的公司觉得太少也好多是没听过
的小公司，我觉得那些没有直接post的那么多大公司summer也应该要招intern的吧？
都说要找refer，然后直接把CV之类的发给某个人，可是我现在都找不到这个公司到底
有哪些组，各自做什么，有哪些人，招不招人之类的信息，怎么找人refer呢？还有茫
茫人海哪里去找这个公司比较相关的人？

然后是关于几个具体公司的问题：
Google有没有hardware的组啊，比如说做digital circuits，chip，microprocessor
design，computer architecture之类的？招不招summer intern的？

发帖数: 29 | 44 这里JMS多，来问个关于BACKGROUND CHECK的问题。最近找了个INTERN，已经拿到口头
OFFER,下一步就是第三方猎头公司background check和reference check，现在担心中
。。。因为上上一份工作（两年前）我写升职在6月，但是HR那边的OFFICIAL资料应该
是在8月升职，这个升过的职位和我的INTERN是同样的工作性质，但是我并没有说谎，
因为我升职是因为之前那个中国人要回国了，可是因为签证之类的问题，本来他要6月
走的，公司也同意6月给我升职，后来他变成了8月份走。。。但是6月就去度假了1个月
，然后8月份离开公司。。。我从6月就实际上act as那个升过的职位，只是因为公司不
大，budget有限，所以只有等他走了我猜可以正式升职，所以Official letter是8月份
签的，但是当时的同事都知道。我不知道这样这个INTERN的工作做background check的
话如果查出来相差两个月会不会把OFFER收回？上一份工作是在中国，猎头公司会打电

上回复我，我等了两天，还没消息，就去问我的同学要他的微信号，想联系联系问问情
况。BTW，我同学说这个M是香港人，他俩发过微信聊天，还嘱咐我说，这孩子有点崇洋
媚外，发微信即使你跟他说中文，他还是回你英文，所以建议我还是英文聊天吧。我说
OK。
结果我一搜他微信，发现他就在我的联系人里！我俩本来就认识好嘛！一回忆，想起来
了！我俩都在旅行社打过工，做过part-time，当时还一起聊过天，以为都是学生背景
，又是同专业，所以还挺聊得来，最后还加了微信，只是一直没联系！这下有多层关系
，更好办了！
我就用英文给他发微信，大概意思就是你还记得我吗？我俩都是**的同事，一起聊过天
的BLA BLA BLA。
结果等了好几个小时，人家回了一个：cool。我一看，得，热脸贴冷屁股了，但还得继
续上啊，还没聊到正题那，又问：还在旅行社干吗？他回：not at the moment。
我问：你毕业了吗？他回： soon. 我看人家没啥聊天的兴致啊，直奔主题吧。

offer。当时我就让他们改成夏季的，但是邮件石沉大海
3星期后再次发信询问，他们说可以发summer intern offer，然后到现在一直没消息。
A家这种email offer算数吗？好担心到头来空欢喜一场。怎么发个正式offer这么费劲
PS. 我投的全职的，2轮电面以后不知道为什么给我发了个intern offer。我intern也

商量后改成unpaid intern，没有cpt，直接去做
这个公司其他的intern都是paid，相当于这个unpaid intern职位是专门弄出来的，这
种情况去做了会影响以后申请H1b吗？并且公司要求最好一周能工作35小时，时间是否
也会有要求？听过一个说法是一周最多只能20小时

公司随便用什么title，朋友想写成software engineer，而不是software engineer
intern，可以吗？
我们知道CPT名义上只能做intern，但能不能把intern写在job description里，而不是

能有，让先intern做3个月。
同时又拿到了另外一个公司的offer，公司也不小，几千人规模，但是和phd做的东西稍
微有点偏差。
个人理想情况是先做intern，让另外一个公司开始工作晚一点，比如几个月后，不知道
一般公司能等多久？个人很想去intern，但是又怕到时候得重新找工作。。过来人有建
议吗？ |
