good for?
We don't know anyone who's tested it yet, but in theory it should let you
exchange data with any other device that supports the IrDA (Infrared Data
Association) standard, including recent PowerBook models and the Newton
MessagePad 2000 and 2100 (the Newton Connection Utility lacks IrDA
support). You could also use IrDA to print to certain printers that have
IrDA ports, but you'd have to hold the printer on your lap |

The infrared port on the front of the iMac can communicate only with other
devices that adhere to a communications standard known as IrDA, after the
Infrared Data Association, the trade group that worked it out.
Unfortunately, Apple in the mid-90s focused on its own protocol, IRTalk,

connect the iMac to other Macs and printers?
No. The AirDock speaks only IRTalk, Apple's old proprietary infrared
protocol, not IrDA, while the iMac speaks IrDA but not
IRTalk. |
