在每一个时期，教会面对哲学与文化，都会有混合真理与世俗思想的诱惑；犹太教也是
如此。十九世纪末荷兰神学家与首相凯伯 (Abraham Kuyper)提醒他的同代基督徒，人类
的历史永远是真理和偶像敬拜之间的争战。廿世纪威敏斯特神学院护教学教授范泰尔 (

抽象的上帝，次等的基督：猜测性的系统神学
早期基督教历经几波的思潮。先有使徒后的教父(Post-Apostolic Fathers)，竭力护教
，称为护教士 (Apologists)；后有反诺斯底主义的教父，如爱任纽 (Irenaeus)和特土
良 (Tertullian)。到了第三世纪则有亚历山大教父学派，主要的发起人是革利免 (Cle
ment of Alexandria)。革利免之后有俄利根(Origen) 神学思想的兴起，深深影响了第
三、第四世纪教义的发展。正统信仰不断面对异端与世俗哲学，响应的时候又不免受到
它们的影响。
