主张排华者的主要依据是：华人有诸多的恶习和偏见，不可能在生活上美国化，更

同美国工人抢饭碗的紧张态势。反对排华者的理由则是：排华违背了中美《蒲安臣条约
》中的自由移民政策，而且违背了美利坚共和国“自由、平等”的立国原则。最终，排
华主义获得了国会多数票的支持。
