Yesterday we were driving along a major thoroughfare in town and I noticed a
young woman walking the same direction as we were traveling, so as the car
came up from the rear, we saw quite a bit of hers. This gal was wearing
VERY short cut-offs which revealed more than modesty would allow. Along
with this display, she was walking in a manner which accentuated her

小城downtown和朋友吃饭，那里的停车一小时一个quarter，我们还在找钱时，边上有
个老人就抢着帮我们付了，真很温暖呀。在NYC样的情况可能就比较少出现了吧。
不知道怎样的社会里才会有更善良的人，有次我拉扯着两个孩子去购物时，钱包掉在
shopping mall里啦。后来shopping mall里打电话让我回去拿，钱一分也没少，不知道

My favorite is crossstich. I'm kind of addicted to it and cannot stop.
I do it while watching TV, so I always have an ongoing project.
The next project I want to do is one of those mirabilia fairies.
The second is crochet. My ex-roommate gave me some patterns. They
are in Germany, but language doesn't matter. Seems like the whole world
use the same note except America.
Knitting is fun but it is too warm for thick sweater here. I guess I need
some motivation to start.

没看过书，Wolfram 人是天才；发明的Mathematica也极有用。但看过Physics Today 上
物理界大牛Kadanoff
的书评[1]。Kadanoff说这本书介绍cellular automata 通俗易懂,可惜有关历史不大确切
，而且他把自个当年的专业cellular automata 吹成万能。
可能有象牙塔里的学者嫉妒别人经商赚大钱的心态。不过自己去看看Wolfram给这本书造
势的网页[2]， 觉得Kadanoff说得也不是太过。与其起名《A New Kind of Science》,还
不如老实一点称作《An Introduction to Cellular Automata Through Mathematica》。

多次看到sanford学兄提到“上海交大继承老交大精髓”，
感到不太明白。
首先我不明白何为老交大精髓？交大的校训是强调饮水思
源的，这点甚至比“求实，创新”还重要。难道这就叫继
承了精髓？
本人在上交大时，学校风气一片混乱，可以说，从上到下，
没有一个正神，翁史烈这人有人还评他当了院士，实在是
轧了院士的牌子。如果真的老交大的精髓就是这个，我觉
得老交大实在没有什么可以自豪的。大家也不要在这儿争了。
翁史烈这个人实在是个垃及，学术没有，领导能力就正样，
现在的上交是他的答卷。我在的时候，正缝上他当校长，
钱到是讨了不少，这点可供西交的人学学。
sanford 学兄在大作中提到上海交大在80年代，有长足发展
这是事实，但说与西交大不相上下，本人表示怀疑。大家都
知道，全国范围对高校评比也就是近几年的事，80年代何有
