Hilary said she wanted to be a trial attorney. The senior associate (probably

Chinese IP lawyers in US. My class will contribute to a 3% increase!?!

legal flaws, since many of us are killing ourselves now with the bar prep:
1) Insurance companies have some of the shrewdest lawyers, they would never
let something like that slip through.
2) Arson requires burning of a building, destroying personal properties is not
arson.
3) No judge would issue a ruling like that.
Now, for some real story: |

The difference is that the term attorney is used in narrower way - somebody
legally empowered to represent another person, whereas the term lawyer can
be used more broadly to refer to anyone that can give legal advice and has
been trained in the law. |

r********e 发帖数: 86 | 13 as busy as big law firm lawyers are, they still have certain control over
their schedule, all depending on how they prioritize their professional
ambition and different things in their personal lives.
I'd say unless he's got a big deal to close every other week or a major
motion due every week or he's on trial, he should have more time - but may
not for you. |
|
j****i 发帖数: 496 | 14 Are you sure he seems you as his date? Even if he is very very busy in a
big law firm, he should still have time to call you or setup a coffee break
or happy hour somewhere.
On the flip side, how did you make yourself available to him? If he gets
off work at 3am in the morning, will he be able to see you?
The relationship needs understanding and compromise from both sides. But if
this is real, it'll work out. It is not true that big law firm lawyers can
't have a loving relationship. |

definitely pays more than a bench scientist.
If you plan to stay here, worst case (paywise) is in-house which probably
pays equal to, if not more than, a group leader. I don't think you would
have much to lose in this pursuit, as long as you are willing to put in a
few years of hard work. |

c**d 发帖数: 3888 | 21 Yes, patent prosecution is boring as hell. You file a lot of patent
applications/office actions. The more interesting stuff, like strategic
consulting, is handled by the partners.
But there is an upside. Patent prosecution, like tax, is a niche field. It
offers relatively higher job security because not every lawyer has a science
background. Also it remains largely unaffected by the economic cycle. |

Bio/
Tech Specialist。

The National Law Journal says that the total number of lawyers working at
the top 250 US law firms dropped by 5,259 in 2009, the largest reduction
since the Journal began tracking law firm census figures three decades ago.
It's as if "two firms the size of Jones Day vanished in 2009," the

growth in the last five years.
