Why the U.S. must lead in supercomputing
Steven E. Koonin
Monday, June 14, 2010
The CRAY 3 supercomputer was state of the art in 1995.
China officially claimed the world's second-fastest computer earlier this
month. China was in fifth place just six months ago - and is expected to
have the world's fastest machine by year end. While its systems currently
rely on U.S. components, China is already constructing comparable machines
using its domestic technology. These challenges to U.S. leadership in

Lack of Rain a Leading Cause of Indian Grid Collapse
Early this Monday morning, 30 July, the worst blackout in a decade left an
estimated 400 million people in northern India (about one-third of the
nation’s population) without power. By 7 p.m., engineers had restored
roughly 80 percent of the more than 8000 megawatts of electrical capacity on
the country’s northern grid that had been unavailable. But just when power
officials expressed optimism that the grid would soon r... 阅读全帖

Comparatively, Stockman likes that Trump appears ready to call out the Fed

China a leading player
China spent a record 1.76 trillion yuan ($254 billion) on
research and development, and the country is catching up with the US's
investment in the same area, spurring a genetic arms race that has been

University of Pennsylvania.
China has invested heavily in gene-editing technology, bankrolling research

When China beat US in gold counts in Beijing 2008, the US media ranked US at
No 1 based on total medal count. This time, when China is beating US in
both gold and medal counts, Chinese are guessing the US media is probably
going to rank base don Bronze count, on which the US is still leading.
Apparently, Chinese still lacks some imagination of loser mentality.

In addition, the number of Republicans who say they are "very satisfied"
with their choice of candidates this year has increased more than 20 points
