校长的信，言明CC到台大后倘若觉得不合意，校方将随时提供方便帮助他去美国。但CC
婉言谢绝了台大的邀请。
CC到香港后写信给在美国的朋友， 告知摩尔根遗传学在中国大陆的困境，并求助谋职
，“如果我有可能在你熟知的任何大学或研究机构任职，我将乐于为其效劳”。这位朋
友将信转给了《遗传杂志》（穆勒当时为该期刊的编委之一），该期刊在1950年6月刊
登了这封信（显然是征得CC同意之后），并冠以“遗传学在中国死亡”的标题。
CC的这封信引起了美国著名遗传学家、诺贝尔奖得主穆勒 （Hermann J. Muller, 1890

人死亡，经济损失达242亿美元。飓风“弗洛伦萨”在2018年9月11日登陆美国北卡罗来
纳州后，给驻扎在当地的美国海军陆战队列尊（Lejeune）基地造成了2英尺的积水，70
%的营房受损无法使用。2018年10月，经过招标，总部位于南卡罗莱纳州的“泰勒建筑
集团”（Tyler Construction Group）开始进行列尊基地的清洁、房屋修缮等重建工作。
然而，“泰勒建筑集团”总裁查尔斯·泰勒近日却曝光出，美国海军陆战队已经将近半

队。经历逾10年战争后，陆战队欲缩减2万人力以符合预算限制及和平时期需要。
缩编规模最大将属北卡罗来纳州的陆战队基地，勒强营（Camp Lejeune）及邻近的新河
（New River）基地将缩减5800人，樱桃点（Cherry Point）基地则裁减2100人。
