cover letter就是照着job description写我符合，我牛，我为什么牛，一般强调你最
牛的两三点并出示证据。所以我的cover letter一般四段：
1. 问候，表明兴趣；
2. 我的hands-on经历中与job description重合的亮点与证据；
3. 我的academic/class经历中与job description重合的亮点与证据；
4. 总结并表决心。
就是说，resume是基础（纲要性质，因为很多公司第一步是机器筛选，所以我的resume
里面放了很多流行词汇），cover letter细节上突出你的亮点。
我有时间，所以resume/cover letter/ thank you letter 一般一个都不会少。不时会
搞些follow-up式的废话，虽然有时他们会忽略其中的某些甚至全部。

cover letter这样写是接近下下之选。
想想看HR一天收到多少简历。多少cover letter。 Cover letter不是只是一个形式。
你的cover letter不突出，根本没被HR人员或他的ERP/HR Onboarding 系统过第一关的
可能性就大大的加高了。
Cover letter 因该至少有：
1）特殊点。 比如说认识在这公司的人
2）本人的core competency - 越和job requirement符合越好
3）本人的经验 - 只要重点。比如说跟这份工作有关，或特牛的
4）为什么想要加入公司
4是最难写的。没有一定了解人际关系的经验不容易写的好听又不带明显拍马屁的成分 |

但是要写成unique的cover letter真的好难。

我刚在加拿大毕业，之前没有在美国的工作经历，所以这次是在加拿大签新的H-1B。律
师给我的document list里面没有提到这个Employment verification letter，如果这
个Employment verification letter就是关于职位的描述和职位的薪水的话，这些都在
H1B petition package里面有描述啊！

了（2014年1月写成了2013年1月），发信去问，结果HR改了letter发回来一看，把级别
（pay grade）降了一级，薪水也随之降了一级（超过15%）。HR说是开始的offer
letter发错了。这也太不靠铺了吧？上次的letter是managing director都签字了的呀~
应该怎么申诉一下呢？朋友现在还没有别的offer，别的都还在面试过程中，这个
offer要求两周内答复。
其实这个机构和职位都还比较满意，就是觉得这个事情让人对机构有很不信任的感觉。

我在前个帖子中提到了我的经历。很多同学写信问我推荐信的长度等等。很抱歉，因为
我也有很多借鉴或抄袭我的朋友们的推荐信和petition letter，我就不能跟大家分享
文件了。就说说我的想法吧。
我的推荐信相对较短，有四封是2页，有一封是3页。petition letter也就是我的cover
letter，是一般书信的格式，在最后附了我补充材料的清单，总共8页。
找好推荐人。一开始多找一些，万一RFE，还可以用上。
先把你想要在petition letter中陈述的事实材料等列个提纲。
首先，介绍一下你的补充材料有哪些。交待一下你请的为你佐证的人是些谁。
接下来，就可以谈谈你的学位背景和学术成就。证明材料首先是你的简历。学术背景无
非是毕业证什么的。学术成就，就是奖项文章等等。请把你所有的文章的摘要复印一份
。至于citation， 牛的人就不用说了。像我一样不牛的同学，或有中文文章又想查引
用的，可以用google scholars，然后把你的名字highlight起来。
然后，你要谈谈你做的东西跟国家利益息息相关。因为你毕竟不是大拿，（你要是大拿

以本人知道的一些信息，这样的推理看合理不？
（1）不是必须的。但是，逻辑上那么了不起的EB1A失业在家，移民官会有看法。各个
移民官的想法也不一样，和你别的方面强不强有关。所以，有人被RFE，有人没有RFE。
（2）有人被RFE，有人没有RFE还有一种可能：没有employment letter，移民官会打个
电话到你的公司，落实你表上填写的雇佣信息是正确的。如电话过去，你已经辞职或
laid-off，估计就有RFE。一切正常，就没有RFE（本人属于这一类）。
（3）移民官打电话到你的公司未必你知道。所以，有些人没有employment letter也没
有RFE，所以觉得完全不需要employment letter。
（4）有了employment letter未必移民官不打电话到你的公司。这只是推理。
总之，case by case。重要的不是你附了employment letter没有，重要的是移民官调
查你时，你能否有合理的反馈回去。
BWY：移民官给我的推荐人也打了电话，很简单：信是不是你写的。

INCAPABILITY of your attorneys. Usually this means your attorney(s) didn't
have a clue how to organize a logically convincing cover letter and tried
this trick to get hint/help from your manager's recommendation letter.

有人说Petition Letter 是一根线，串起所有的档案材料。这其实是本末倒置。打个比
方，大家都发过paper。Petition Letter的地位就相当于paper的正文，而其它的档案
材料只能算作supporting information。这就是为什么DIY的朋友会花这么多时间在
Petition Letter上。这也是为什么多数律师都不会让你过目凝结他们心血的Petition
Letter。
常在这儿看到这样的贴，“大家快递呀，移民局正在放水……”这其实是一种损人不利
己的行为。这儿没人是USCIS里的余则成，没人知道移民官们在筹划着什么。有的只是
根据一两个案例的管中窥豹，不足为信。退一万步说，即使是真的，等到你几天后草草
递上材料时，风头可能早已变向了，受伤的只有你。

Just FYI, I didn't put the verification letters together with other RLs.
I had a letter from an editor, of the journal where I both published a paper
and reviewed papers, so I had extended his letter to be a RL, and that
letter was put together with other RLs.
But other simpler review verification letters were put separately in the "
Judge" section.

我的EB1B一直是公司指定的律师帮着搞，也不知道他们这方面业务怎么样。
从开始办到现在，要了简历，文凭等常规材料，然后就开始准备recommendation
letter了，就是找教授签名的那种。不过一直没听过要什么petition letter，会不会
是他们做得不到位？

yes, I did. But as in all cases, letterhead makes the letter look nice, but
it's not a must. You can have a couple letters that don't use a letterhead,
if it's really impossible to get one.
both are okay. You can let the editor decide, and you only request him to
print it on a letter-head.

This review verification letter is not a RL, but somebody may put it

向给过我发review机会的editor发信要support letter,大约4，5个杂志 （每个至少审
过3次），结果是有一个编辑最近很nice的给我回信说好，因为度假晚了回复，然后发
过来了签字的letter
问题是其他的editor就没有回音了，有一个说不认识我，不能提供；意识到他可能误解
是RL，就回信委婉的解释了，但是没有下文了；因为其他的editor也没有回复，所以大
约十天后发email再问，委婉说明就是1页的support letter,非RL，大家还是不回复
问题是他们就再不发review给我了!(要letter前一般每月给我发的。)难道要support
letter就得罪他们了吗？我还想再积累些review的呀，这种情况怎么办？我应该发
email说不要信了，只要继续给我review就行了?

较牛。但是他现在推荐信上的letter head不是杂志社的，而是他自己开的一个小公司
的letter head。律师说如果是小公司的letter head，那这份推荐信就不能用。其实信
的内容写的很不错，而且这人也确实很牛，难道就因为一个信头的问题而就不能用这推
荐信了吗？另外找了一个在研究所的牛人，但是他的研究所是附属在我大学的，所以那
个letter head 是我学校的名字。律师又觉得这个信头不好，移民官会认为这是

letter里说明了目前的研究方向以证明还在claim的领域里工作，有的letter里根本没

2)我的i140是通过claim我原来博士的研究领域过的，因为文章和引用都是那时候的工
作，现在博后期间还没文章。当初I140找老板要推荐信的时候，老板死活不愿意说我现
在的研究和我要claim的领域有关系，最后没办法，找了一个老板的合作教授要推荐信
，把这个问题解决。我现在的问题是，如果这个EVL里一定要提目前的研究的话，估计
HR会给我老板联系或者确认一下，老板知道后肯定不愿意写我claim的领域，这样移民
官会不会认为我目前不在原来claim的领域里工作，导致rfe。请各位大侠帮忙出点主意

,构思好怎么包装自己，想好哪些没证据的话需要reference来说，然后写到reference
letter里找人签字。我知道找推荐人不容易，但是不断找应该总能找到的，而且我感觉
好像推荐人说什么话更重要，其身份如果不是牛到像公众人物一样，IO也不care的吧。

发帖数: 483 | 50 大家好，前不久公司雇佣的律师事务所给我file了EB1B pp，然后很快招来的RFE。RFE
要求补充的材料还比较简单，但是可以看出做我的案子的parallegal极其不负责任，搞
的很垃圾，比如在我的case里上传的是别人的offer letter，而不是我的。基本上都是
一些低级的错误，要求补充的都是一些事实性的材料和证明，都还算容易。
看到这种情况，我有点不放心，今天特意给律师电话要了supporting letter, 拿过来
一看，上次我给他们发的support letter的修改稿中我对我专业方向的修改，基本上都
没有被采纳。换句话说，就是parallegal写了一个大的专业方向wireless
communication, 和我真正的我的专业方向thermal fluids sciences差了十万八千里。
我在修改support letter时，把这些地方一一指出了。但不明白这个parallegal为何又
全部改回去wireless communication(整个letter这个错误大概有15处之多），只有一
两处写对了。
这个问题严重吗？可不可以在补充RFE材料时提... 阅读全帖 |
