choose what to invest, and they automatically chose for me to invest to "T-C
Lifecycle 2035-Rtmt". My retirement fund incur a loss of about 25% by 12/31
/2008. What should I invest, in order to keep the value? Could I just save

They did that for a reason. Get a little bit of education on investment is
a good thing for you in the long run. If you want to learn, you can go to
morningstar and study their online course.
The quick answer is if you invest in money market fund you can keep the
value. You need to find out what TIAA-CREF offer for your 401K plan.

Keeping the value of your contribution will hardly help you archive your
goal -- funding your retirement life. So you should think of long term, so
at least put some money into stock market. If you do not know much about
investment, the 2035 fund might still be a good choice.
That said, if you really cannot stand loss, you can switch investment to a
money market fund if available, otherwise, pick the Lifecycle fund that is
closet to now, such as 2010. |

you should do, keep it in T-C Lifecycle 2035-Rtmt is the best choice.
If you do something before you understand what it means, that's gambling.

I guess there are some folks who are brainwashed by Wallstreet firms (who
stand to profit from your money) to think that stock market always go up in

last century. Ask Italy, Japan, Argentina, Russia, China... and a long list

are exhibit A. I suspect your plan may also come with all sorts of fees. It
will be fun to find out after August this year when all the 401(k) plans
are required by Dodd-Frank Act of 2010 to report their expenses to
individual employees.
My suggestion, if you want to be with your company long-term, then only
contribut to get the match (if there is match), and build your retirement
