someone else. It now looks like a weird situation may occur to Pfizer and
Ranbaxy. Pfizer's parent patent on Liptor is still valid, and will expire in
2009. however, Pfizer lost the claim 6 of their second patent, which expires
in 20011,therefore, they lost the suit against Ranbaxy.Between 2009-2011, both
Pfizer and Ranbaxy, and only those two, will be selling Liptor, because
Pfizer can still keep other generic makers |

of simvastatin. LZ you are right. There are lots of coupons you can use (e.
g.: Google “Liptor + coupon”or ask your M.D.; just make sure you check the exp date) So far as I know, the copay should not have any (big?) difference if you pay
out of your pocket + use coupon.
As 79 mentioned, you definitely want to get a prescription first before
considering the $ or whatsoever (in the U.S, at least).

Association，中美医药开发协会)组织的会议，来的基本都是中国人，不少来自国内企
业，比如恒瑞，也有一些是Abbott，J&J，Teva公司里的中国人。借这个机会跟工业界
的前辈们交流，觉得还是有一些收获的。于是把感想归纳以下几点：
1.
化学药研发持续萎靡，主要原因是：1，创新瓶颈，R&D成本上升而产品减少；2，专利
悬崖，大量专利过期，generic drugs对brand drugs的 围追堵截。这几年Big Pharm的
日子很难过，只能不断裁员缩减成本。Merck就把几乎整个合成部门砍掉，几千号地裁
人，NJ当地经济肯定是大受影响了。如果没有新的药物靶点或者革新当前的研发模式，
小分子药物最终可能会在低廉仿制药的带动下，变成快消这类的大众消费品，高额利润
的时代也将成为过去。
2.
医药产业的外包转移，CRO公司的崛起。有机合成是Pharmaceutical Industry必不可少

his deteriorating renal function. When I asked the detail, he could not
give the exact number, but he said if it still goes down, he has to consider
dialysis. He took too many medications, a lot of them I don't quite agree.

industry will be, in ten years, the auto industry today. When asked about
himself, he said he is on schedule to retire in 2011.
Most of the scientific developers of blockbuster drugs (Liptor, Zorcor,
Exeubra, etc.) have been let go. Just check USPTO website for those original
patents and check again to see where the inventors are now.
Biotech cannot replace pharma, at least for now.
