写在Laurie Halverson竞选蒙郡Board Of Education District 3委员之际
我第一次见到Laurie Halverson女士是在2013年1月30日晚Montgomery County Counsil
PTA (MCCPTA) 组织的Math Curriculum Night。这是一个让家长们和MCPS教学和数学
课程负责人面对面交流的活动。当时，Laurie作为MCCPTA Curriculum Committee的
chair是活动的组织者。
我和Laurie见面之前，我们之间已经有过不少次电话/电邮联系。作为一个普通的家长
，我非常关心孩子们的教育问题。Laurie在电话和邮件中对我的问题耐心解答。如果没
有答案，她也不厌其烦地讲述她所知道的信息或者在电邮中提供相关的链接。
Laurie有一颗关爱孩子教育的心。这些年来，她一直积极参与和组织学校内外的各项活

Curriculum Committee的co-chair：Amanda Graver。小个子非常精干。
GTA 前主席：Frederick Stichnoth
GTA 新主席：Patrick Dunn
出席人数大约在70左右
华人：～15
印度：～6
黑人：～6
白人/中东人：其余
MCCPTA：虽然是PTA，其实是parents搞的。因此大家也就不客气，谈起问题无论肤色如
何都是满腔怨气。
有关摘要：
- HGC/Magnet也会根据Curriculum 2.0调整教学方式。不会逃脱魔掌。这个算是个合理
的意外。
- 更多细节会在01/08 GCC meeting上讲。这次，Michelle被限制了不能多说。
- Michelle 说到几年来 MCCPTA一直在与BOE/学监沟通，反映大家的问题。可是这个草
根组织比较弱小，没什么发言权。Michelle呼吁大家参加petition。

发帖数: 7272 | 8 往年这个活动主要就是给大家讲HGC和Magnet program和申请流程。今年的信息夜将更
有针对性的帮助家长们。内容涵盖home school的GT相关教学信息。另外在大家的争取
下，今年将有2-3次信息夜。11/04的对象是小学家长。初中的会在明年2月。在
presentation后，大家有机会向MCPS主管GT和小学的两位director提问。

12/10 今晚 7pm-9pm @ Cafeteria at the Carver Educational Services Center,
850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville.
议程（注意最后一点）。据透露，一个重要消息是宣布4th Grade开始会有
acceleration。这比Common Core Standard 里不推荐在6th grade前安排acceleration
好。但是3th grade以前的孩子还是受影响。如果你的小孩可能会受到影响，可以参加
这个会了解情况。

1）Michelle是MCCPTA中Gifted Child Committee的chair。她对家长和孩子们非常热心。
2）这个survey是对MCPS最近一系列改革的一个调查。如果有问题家长有意见和问题，
最好能够反映出来。
